Pre-purchase inspection

I would appreciate guidance regarding pre-purchase inspection. Distance is a major barrier in having the RV technician I trust perform the inspection. A dealer offered to have his team perform an in-depth inspection for a fee - more than the required safety checks.

Unlike other posts I've read, I am not skilled in detecting something major lurking under the surface. I feel torn between an in-depth inspection and buying a MH that I like. Anyone willing to share the approach they use?

I would use the technician you trust. Chances are you're spending a substantial amount of money. I would fly them and pay expenses. A couple thousand upfront could save you down the road. Even if it's a new coach

Thanks. I tried that but my RV Technician keeps the rig overnight. I don't want to sound like I'm whining - maybe I am. Feeling stuck between the rock and a hard place. Thanks again for reaffirming the value of the inspection.

Maybe do a google search for mobile rv repair in the area of the rig.

X2 what Outlaw said. Google a few service places (not dealers) near the RV and call them and ask if they do independent inspections or know somebody who does. Then arrange to pay them to do an inspection on your behalf. That way they're working for you and not the dealer. Even if you pay the dealer to have their technicians go over the RV, they still work for the dealer.

More to know

The initial inspection isn't just for you to check for everything being right. It is also an opportunity for the dealer to show you how everything works. Also, my experience is that these rigs are made one at a time and there can be errors. I picked mine up about a month ago. Took it back after the 2 days courtesy camp and took it back after my first trip. Will take it back once more after some parts come in. Dealer is great on taking care of all. They are 4 hours away. This has been a process of me learning the rig and them taking care of minor stuff they needed to.
