Ready Brake

has anyone used the ready brake or brute elite? i have 2 wranglers and don't want to buy 2 systems and not sure if i like the floorboard brakes. i have a roadster sterling tow bar and saw were i can just get the actuator to go between the coach and my tow bar. any thoughts?

Not to hijack the thread, but I am curious how the Ready Brute system works. I understand that the tow bars compress when you brake which pulls a cable that pulls the Jeep brakes. But where does the cable attach to the Jeep?

I currently use the Blue Ox Patriot because I didn't know about the Ready Brute system but will be looking at that whenever the Patriot gives up the ghost.

Cable can be mounted in bumper or baseplate. Comes with a hollow nylon bolt to mount on a solid surface. I mounted mine thru the Currie baseplate under the bumper where its not noticable. Here is a pic if you look under my bumper.

Thanks, but where does the cable run to from there? Does it hook to the brake linkage in the engine compartment or does it go to the brake pedal in the cab?

thanks Rich.M, i am also looking at the currie base plate to use with the ready brute, does the supplied adaptors fit right on the end of the tow bar or did you have to get a different type. basically what adaptor goes between thew tower and and the base plate. maybe include a picture at the connection plate. thanks for your reply, this is exactly the set up i am thinking about.

Order the readybrute elite with the blue ox clevises to fit the currie base plate. They fit directly on the plate.

nice, I got the currie plate installed, light kit(probably need the blinker relay), ready brute brake cable and i think I'm ready for the Gainesville trip to see my daughter and the Orange and blue debut at UF's with the new coach . if you have the currie did you have to ream out the pin holes on the plate. my pins would not go in that well. i think i read where someone had to clean the paint out.

Mine were tight , seemed to be from paint . Much better after first trip towing but I think I did pass a drill bit thru at the same listed size and found it was just thick paint. I did later buy the heavy duty pins with handles from the NSA ready Brake website , they make pin insertion and removal very easy. Have fun on your trip, my son will be applying to UF this fall, we are all keeping our fingers crossed and hoping to be a Gator Family.

Fingers crossed for the boy. we are on the list for on campus rv parking for the football games. there are 5 dry camp lots. 2 are permitted and cost 500 for the season. guaranteed. 3 are first come first serve. we did it last year for a game and it was a lot of fun. other wise we stay at grand lake resort near macintosh little south of GV.
on another note i had to round off the edges of the brackets. the clevises were round and would not allow them to fit proper. should be fine now.

well she pulled like a dream, connect and disconnect quick and simple. haven't put the brake indicator on yet. i can't tell if the brakes are being applied or not. di not feel any tugging. should I?

Should not feel tugging, that would be the jeep applying to much Brake. The ready Brake engages when the towed pushes more than 100 to 200 pounds against (spring) the RV. The Brake is applied as force increases. If your cable is set right you won't feel any push either, 200 lb is not significant for the RV Brake system. The jeep brakes will be handling the force of the stop proportionally. I have the light installed, drilled a hole in the center of a accessory switch place holder on the dash where I can see it easily looking ahead.
The light comes on at all stops. It is reassuring to be able to see all is working well. I have noticed if stopping or parking on a down slope that the Brake is sometimes still engaged. Easily untriggered by pulling forward 3 -4 inches after a full stop , the light helps to know the Brake status. Don't want to have Brake lights on parked etc. Overall it has been great. I've had a couple of emergency hard stop situations in the last 4000 miles towing and never felt any push from our jeep.

ok, i did not feel a push or pull so i wasn't sure what to expect. is your light read the from the spring or the brake pedal? i see roadster make a connection point in the brake wiring near the pedal to indicate the pedal is moving not just the spring in case the tension is not set right. heading to Tampa this weekend, hope the wind settles down.

The sensor is on the spring lever to light the led at the dash. Ground is at the frame in the back and wire with led up to a powered plus lead up front, like the lighter. That's independent of the Brake light wiring for the coach /jeep connect. Did you get the whole ready brute elite towbar, it comes with the led to run to the dash.

Yes. i have not hooked up the the dash light yet. the included light just tells me the ready brute is actuating, if my brake lead get to much slack or god for bid comes off i want to know if my brake pedal is actuating. does anyone use that light set up?

I wired the light to the brake light switch on my CRV, that way I know exactly what the toad brakes are doing. Works great!
