Recommendation for suspension tunning within 250miles of Detroit?

I have a 2006 Lexington 255DS, it handles OK, but we are looking at traveling more and I think some improvements would help our enjoyment.

Does anyone have experience with a shop in or around Detroit that they would recommend? I am willing to drive to find good service.

Thanks,

Bill - who does not want to do it himself...

Bill, I do not know of a shop in SE MI and as an owner of a sprinter chassis motor home I have found that finding places to upgrade or service it is a challenge. If you are willing to travel some I would recommend you contact the Topper Shop, N of Greenville, MI. They have helped me with an oversized sway bar, sumo bump stop springs and a set of helper springs from “Super Springs.” They have a garage tall and deep enough to service most any size unit.

Please share your feedback, experience.

I'm in the Mt. Clemens area, new owner of a motorhome, and would love to hear about any experience you have with repair / maintenance shops in SW Michigan.

Like a lot of people, I've been going to a trusted mechanic for years, but he doesn't do motorhomes.

Likewise, I'll share any reviews I can, too.

Thanks.

So far I have been mostly frustrated with any help I have hired. For the truck, I have done OK with few Ford dealers. The only RV place I have been happy with was up in the UP, the caulk between the cab and RV was leaking and a dealer in Iron Mt fixed it in 3 hours and did it well (1 hour work, 2 hours dry before I could drive).

I had the MH in for a front end alignment last year and they did fine (Novi Auto Repair).

I was looking at front end work to improve driving and read a lot. Lots of opinion and not a lot of facts. I came to one for sure conclusion, anytime you replace 15 year old shocks with new, your driving experience is enhanced, indifferent of what you replace it with.

I put on a new steering damper (Bilstein) before driving to Rocky Mt NP this past summer. That helped a lot, but I still had a lot of vibration and bounce in the front end. I took it back to Harolds and they found one of my front tires had a chunk out - ok, but would not balance well -5 years old 25k miles). They rotated that to the back and replaced the front shocks.
I have only been up to highway speed twice, but major difference. New tires all the way round next year.

If your unit is older than 10 years, I would look at replacing shocks and steering damper. As far as high end or similar to original, I am not convinced either way. For me just NEW made it significantly better.

Welcome & good luck,

-Bill
