RVS Systems rear view camera

My 3051 came with this system installed. I've found that the display unit in the cab can accept two inputs.

I'd like to add a second camera, one looking down at the bumper/toad, the other looking back down the highway, more like a conventional rear view mirror.

Anybody out there done it/had it done? My local mobile electronics shop says he can add a second camera for about $2-300, if I supply the camera.

What say you all?

Is the system that came with the unit a wired or wireless setup?

You didn't say of it was a wireless or wired system. Adding cameras is not difficult if you are a little handy. Here is a link to parts. rvs | B&H Photo Video

$200-$300 sounds high if cameras are not included.

I don't remember what I paid to have it installed, but I chose to add a second camera with the maximum night vision I could find to help me back up into sites at night.

It's a wired system.

Most of the install cost would come from running a 2nd cable from the 2nd camera to the junction box, which he thinks is in the headliner.

I added the RVS wired system to my TT. I used 3/4" ENT Carlon 3/4 in. x 100 ft. ENT Coil - Blue-12007-100 - The Home Depot as a wiring channel from ft to rear. Just used J-clamps to attach it to the frame. Easy quick install. I left a tracer line in the ENT which I have since used to add backup lights. The video junction box has two additional video inputs. The cable includes all wiring for power, video and audio.

If you locate the multiplex control unit it accepts three inputs ,number three is for backup camera and the other two are for additional cameras. So it is very easy to hookup additional cameras as they just plug in.

We have the same system in our 2500TS. We have a rear slide that was interfering with the down view, so I used a 3/4" block to get the camera past the awning. That gives a pretty full view of a 19'boat, plus enough vision to see traffic a hundred yards plus to the rear and about 5' out from the RV bumper. There are 3 set screws on either side of the camera. Have you tried tipping the camera a few degrees?

I will be installing a second camera to see the blind area from the bumper out to the rear. This will be more for connecting the trailer, but the function would be the same as what you are considering. I have a 2" x 2" angle piece of aluminum 4' long, mounting it under the bumper. A 4-pin camera is mounted in the aluminum and will terminate to the in-dash GPS head unit which is a 4-pin din. There are connectors for back-up or anytime modes at the head unit. That is a 7" screen as opposed to toggling the rear view mirror screen. I will also be using the aluminum angle piece to mount back-up sensors.

If you choose to do another RVS camera to your "mirror", that is a 5-pin din camera with proprietary cabling. Get in touch with Rear View Safety tech support and they will help you with proper cable length and connections. RVS has excellent customer support and can take your order over the phone.

Scubadude62 - My multiplex is about 8 inches from my monitor if yours is 7" colour it should have a single jack on the back of the monitor which you can follow back to the multiplex

I will be a nay sayer on this one. Don't buy a cheap camera and, especially,do not buy a cheap wireless camera. There are way too many war stories in the reviews.
