Trip to Kentucky

We are thinking about talking a trip to Kentucky and visit the distilleries between Lexington and Louisville. There is a site that discusses the bourbon trail. We thought we would stay at an rv park the centrally located. It seems as though all distilleries would be in a 60 mile radius so we would drive to them. Any recommendations on a park or suggestions on how we should plan this. Thanks

My Old Kentucky Home State Park is nice. Only have about 6 or so with full hookup. Sits right on the golf course and close driving distance to our bourbon trail.

MOKH state park is a nice location for several Distilleries, unless they have updated the W/E Some sites require additional "Hose and Power cords" though! If you stay in this area of the "Bourbon Trail" Really consider going to the "Canton Cooperage" in Lebanon,KY! Youroo!

That is true. Mine has always been lots of hose. Perfect place to stay otherwise. Especially if you play golf and want to hit the trail.

If you are planning a trip to Kentucky this summer, try to be in Hopkinsville on August 21 for the total solar eclipse.

Since you want to run the Bourbon Trail, an interesting bar to visit in the Cheapside area of Lexington is the Bluegrass Tavern. This is a great bourbon bar and has hundreds of brands available. Bartenders are very knowledgeable and will help you with selections. Bring a fat wallet, some of them are quite pricey.

Also, a short visit to the central Lexington Library was interesting to me when I was there.

One restaurant recommendation - stop in to one of the Ramsey's (there are several around the city). They have the best Kentucky Brown and everyone should try it. Very tasty meal, but it IS a heart attack on a plate. I also recommend their catfish sandwich.

Lots of dry counties around. Be ready to have the bourbon not flow as free as one might think. if you like hiking check out red river gorge while there. Very pretty area.

I should say that I worked in Lexington for a while. So a couple more recommendations.

Strongly recommend a visit to Pleasant Hill, the Shaker community site.

My two favorite BBQ places - Red State and Babes. Red State is on Georgetown road and Babes is on Cincinnati near Cherry Blossom Rd (near the Toyota Plant outside Georgetown).

We vacationed in Kentucky a few years ago and also camped at My Old Kentucky Home State Park. We had rented a pop-up for that trip, so sight size was not too much of an issue. I am not sure what size RV you are traveling with. Call and check to see if they can accommodate it. We enjoyed visiting the Bardstown area while we were there, including several distilleries. We saw a concert at the state park and enjoyed visiting the house there. We traveled to Lexington and camped at a state park there, but I cannot recall the name of it. We visited many different historical sights along the way that had to do with Abraham Lincoln, including the Mary Todd Lincoln house in Lexington.

My Old KY Home State Park is nice. Also the Ky Horse Park is nice and check out the Horse Race Museum. Most of the state parks in KY have a great buffett at their park.

While you are in the area also check out Kentucky Horse Park. Very nice campground and a very interesting and beautiful place to visit if you are at all interested in things equine.

The Ky Horse Park is one of our favorites. It's awesome to see the retired race horses so close and so well taken care of. You get a great show.
