I flat tow a manual 2011 Mini convertible behind my Forester 2451s with no problems. Use BlueOx system and mounted the baseplate my self. Also have a brush sweep on the bumper and use the Kargard II which helps keep the Mini a little clean.
Didn't know it is back there other than a drop to 6.5 MPG.

Would that be a drop of 1-2 MPG or a little more?
Just wondering....

That's to be expected
I currently tow a box MC trailer with a full dress Harley
Do you use a brake system in the Mini?

No brake system yet. Its hard to tell the Mini is back there even under heavy braking, but feel like I should add it. Probably only towed 4000 miles so far, Ohio to Florida.

Ohio to Florida without a braking system? Be careful - Florida requires one but isn't nearly as bad as GA. Those guys just love to check and enforce. I tow a Wrangler and use the same system you have except I added the Invisibrake. Love it!

I thought any towed weight over 1000lbs required working brakes.

I sure wouldn't want to meet your Mini coming at me around a curve in the highway!

Not true. Different states have different laws.

A32Deuce: Laws vary, but you're correct in most states. I also agree on meeting it coming around a curve. I'd hate to think my toad killed someone because I chose to save $1,000 and didn't have a breakaway system. Lots of folks just don't seem to think it's possible but I've yet to see anyone with a checklist and taking their time when hooking up the toad.

I think a Mini is heavy enough to warrant having a working brake system with hitch failure emergency brake feature.

I just looked it up. Towing 4 dn. requires a supplemental brake and brake-away system. This if you want to do it legally!

It is a state thing, here in Louisiana the limit is 3000# without brakes so the MINI would not need brakes. Now if you leave the state well thats different.

Towing the Mini Cooper
A few years ago I looked into a Mini C for a toad. I needed an automatic so the wife could drive it but the Mini auto cannot be towed 4 wheels down. Thought about a dolly but that would be a pain in the butt. During my search I found that the Mini C is not listed on the approved list that MH puts out even though base plates are available. I do remember that during my search that someone contacted Mini Cooper and inquired about towing behind RVs and the response from the manufacturer was "do not tow any Mini four wheels down". The writer speculated that they didn't want it towed because the odometer doesn't clock miles while being towed.
