Fumes

So I installed one of those high speed magnificent exhaust fans in my bathroom .... I'm thinking it's doing such a great job that it's sucking fumes out of the holding tanks. When on (and not enough cross/exterior ventilation is available) I can smell "methane?" from the sink drains ... although I believe that I see a plumbing vent below the kitchen sink that may be providing the majority of the smell.
Thoughts please!
Has anyone else experienced such?
Thanks!!

you need to open a vent . those circulation fans are designed to pull cool air from the a. c .to a room / upper bedroom 5 th wheel. etc. i hab one in a 27 ft t trailer . with 1 a.c. put the small fart fan back in bathroom and fancy fan where you need the cool air to move to. cool morn breeze from south rear ,, to north window .

A friend at work has informed me that my "cheater valves" have probably failed. Should be an easy fix.

Theoretically you shouldn't smell anything if your plumbing is in order. Standard plumbing should seal off the waste tank from the living space.

What is a "cheater valve"?

a cheater valve is a cap that vents lines from waste pipes . usually in homes on a septic system. r.v holding tanks, " sometimes".. i explained why this is ocurring in a above post.

Supposed to let air in to the tanks as water goes out.... but blocks air from going the other way. I bought 2 (one for kitchen and one for bathroom) and will replace today and report back. I'm convinced that this is the issue as the smell is strong from under the sink when opening the cabinet. But ... we will see.

Replaced the two valves. Problem solved. The valves that were original to the camper were the cheapest version on earth.
Here's a lesson on the subject -

Do you not have a standard roof vent?

I guess not. It's a toy hauler so ... I do have pop out air "relievers" for fumes I suspect. And I have the bathroom exhaust fan of course..... and a screen door .... and screens in the windows.

You must have a roof vent or the sinks wouldn’t drain. Air admittance valves do not negate the need for a vent to atmosphere. For them to work, they must be connected to a system with a vent to atmosphere.

I do and it smells after moving a bit. I keep my black tank very clean after dumping. I made a wand to spray the sides.

If there is any movement through the bathroom AT THE MOMENT YOU FLUSH THE TOILET…..you will draw fumes from the black tank into the bathroom air.
Turn OFF you fans when you flush. The water remaining in the owl creates a seal to stop the odours from coming in.

Looks like you guys are discussing 3 types of movements .... air movement, trailer movement, and bowel movements.

I've read that in multiple places but never experienced the problem. The fan is always on low, at least. Maybe I'm lucky?

(Canadian spelling error corrected. )
