Adding a 120VAC circuit in a 23IKSS

Howdy !

One of my "to-do" list items is to add another 120VAC circuit to my 2017 23IKSS, so I can have the kitchen island on a separate circuit (all of the outlets on the entire trailer are on a single circuit, which is really strange).

I have space in the distribution panel at the converter to add the breaker, but getting it wired from the panel to the island is a challenge.

Any suggestions ? Anyone ever done this before ?

No, but I'd like to do exactly the same thing. You're right - having all the outlets on a single GFI circuit poses limitations - especially in cold weather when we run an electric heater. Please post back if you find a way to snake a wire to the distribution panel. Thanks.

This is easy. I did it last year. There is a channel under the floor where the water pipes run to the island. I ran romex in this same channel back to the space under the back bunk. The breaker panel is right around the corner from that. I added an extra outlet and left the original wiring alone.

Just take out the false panel in the end of the island toward the back of the trailer and you will find the channel.

All done. I replaced one of the island outlets with a new GFCI outlet and ran a new circuit through the channel in the floor. Then I tied in the second island outlet to the new GFCI outlet. Works great and now the island outlets are on their own 15A circuit.

Thanks again for the tip!

Awesome! I need to do this too. Any installation pics? Was the snaking process pretty easy?

Here are a couple of pics from inside the island. First is the back of the new box I installed (just an "old work" box). Second pic is looking down at the channel that the romex runs in. The gray romex is the new run I made. It just snaked along the channel next to the water piping. Easy to do. Click image for larger version

Adding a 120VAC circuit in a 23IKSS

Thank you for the pics. This is next on my to-do list. Last question: is the breaker something that can be found at Lowes or Home Depot or do I need to get it from an RV parts supplier?

You can get one at those locations. Not all breakers fit all panels. I took one out and brought it with me to sure I got the right one.

I got this from Amazon. It is exact same one as the OEM breakers. There are other brands from Lowes or Home Depot Click image for larger version

Thanks everyone. This has been on my wish list for a while, but I thought it would be a real pain to get a wire back to the distribution panel. All of this info is very helpful, and I'm looking forward to doing this mod soon.

This is a great mod. Just be sure you read the directions carefully! I spent about 2 hours trying to run the new cable from the island to the distribution panel before I realized that the correct channel was behind the vent panel! I kept hearing my snake banging around but could not see it because I was looking at the wrong place. Live and learn.
