Anyone add speakers to the back bunk area?

I have a 2015 21dk and I rewired the radio like we all do, and now I have a vacant channel. With the ac running at night you can't hear the tv at the back bunk, I was thinking about adding speakers, has anyone done this?

I added a pair of speakers in my 2016 183, so I have two zones inside (4 speakers total). One zone is for the rear bunk area, and the other is towards the front. You need really shallow depth speakers. I used extensions (collars that go between the speakers and the mounting surface) to increase the available mounting depth so I could use higher quality speakers (I also replaced the existing factory speakers).

What speakers did you replace the factory ones with and aside from adding 2 more speakers, did it make an appreciable difference?

I used Polk 6 1/2" slim mount coaxial speakers. They have a depth of only 2", from the bottom of the magnet to the mounting surface. Even with the super slim depth, I still needed the mounting collars. There are a lot of options out there for slim mount speakers. Some are more slim than others. You lose bass response the slimmer the speaker gets because of the smaller magnet (among other things). That's why the factory speakers don't sound very good.

As far as sound quality (bass/treble response) and volume, they made a huge difference. I definitely wouldn't need them to get any louder.

I used something similar to these to replace the ceiling speakers in my 23IKSS. Big improvement in the sound. I needed to make a few modifications to replace the existing speakers.

They look great, do they come with the mounting collars?

No, they don't. The collars are available in different thicknesses, depending on how much extra depth you need. I needed about 1/2" more depth in order for the speakers to fit. The collars are 1" thick (I wanted to have more than enough room, without the speakers sticking out too far).

What modifications did you have to make? This is next on my list to upgrade. I bought exterior speakers and a mounting pod. Will post pics of those once installed.
