Brake controller/wiring issues

Hi, I have a 2016 Kia Sorento and a 2018 Shamrock 183. The 7 pin connector on the Kia was damaged and wiring got wet from an accident over the winter. After replacing the 7pin connector on the Kia, I tested it with the camper. I had the power and ground reversed and it fried the istop brake controller. I replaced the brake controller and corrected the wiring. Now when I plug in the camper with the battery disconnect engaged, the brake controller will show 13 for the output which is maximum I am assuming. It will not let me adjust it with the wheel on the controller. If I turn the battery on the camper on, it displays "SH" or short. I am at wits end trying to figure out what the issue can be. I don't know a lot about brake controllers or trailer wiring so I am feeling a little defeated here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a digital voltmeter? Do you know how to use it?

Getting the ground and positive mixed up can happen, I suppose, but only to someone with not much experience with electrical wiring.

Your wiring and electric diagrams need to be compared both on the TV and the trailer and inspected to be sure that nothing is left to chance.

Certainly one can google "trailer wiring diagrams" and get dozens of images with wire color codes that need to be checked with your install. Then proceed to check out the wiring leading to each wheel's brake magnet and make sure that each wheel works.

I really suggest that you let a trailer specialist look at it, and I don't mean an RV dealer... a place like a U-Haul aftermarket trailer hitch installation place that is experienced in this area is my recommendation. First take in the Kia and make sure that all checks out... then take the trailer in next to have that checked out.

Just guess-timating here, but I think the Sorento is probably maxed out towing even a 183 ( I have a 183) so I would want to be 100% sure that your trailer brakes are 100% working before risking damage or worse to your setup.

Google 7 pin rv plug tester. There are number of testers that just plug in & will tell you if things are working correctly.
