My 13 233s did it, my 16 barely stops it, dealer checked trailer and brake controller and can't find anything wrong

On bigger trailers (11K+) it's hard to lock up the wheels (dunno why you would want to) but with smaller trailers it's pretty easy to do. Assuming this (16) is new, perhaps someone got a bit grease happy prepping it and over greased the wheel bearings. You may now have grease on your brake shoes.

If I put the trailer brake controller all the way up to 13 volts and apply the manual override at 25mph in May stop me in the length of a football field. Something is not right, my 13 233s at 9 would almost put you threw the windshield

The dealer pulled two wheels and both of them were clean, no grease and no issues. Does anyone else have these never adjust brakes and having issues?

yes, but my issue is heat from over adjusting, have trash caned those brakes and replaced with old fashioned ones, I will have to adjusts, but that is ok with me, cause those never adjust were nothing but trouble.

Thinking they are junk too, I will give them a few more tries. Dealer said they could just remove the auto adjusters and put manual ones in place.

I have the same very weak brakes on my 2016 Rockwood 8280WS. Was searching for possible solutions. Anyone able to get the self-adjusting brakes to work right?

This is the Roo/Shamrock Hybrid TT section and they don't have self adjusting brakes, as far as I know.
You should post in the Rockwood TT/5th section.

I have a 2016 Roo 183 with a prodigy P3 controller. My brakes do not lock up on the highest setting. A tech at Prodigy suggested that the brakes may need adjusting, but they also said that everything may be working normally and there might not be a problem.

I've adjusted the brakes and confirmed with the dealer that the brakes were working/adjusted properly when I picked up the trailer this past spring.

My trailer is now in storage, but I'll be taking a look at this again when things thaw.

The 2015's and 2016's supposedly have Dexter Never adjusts as per both of the brochures.

Ebcobra, I was never able to get a 2011 Aerolite 185, same plan as a Roo 19, to lock up. Tandem non self adjusting dexters 10 X 2 1/4. And that was with either a P2 prodigy or factory GM brake control. The brakes were not screwed up.

I have never been able to lock up the brakes on our current Keystone Passport 235 hybrid, not surprising as it has two 3000 lbs axles with 10 X 1/1/2 brakes thanks to Keystone's penny pinching. But even then the brakes are fully operational.

If you can get them to lock they will need to be hot, you'll never get them to do it cold.

Also check the gauge of wire used from connector to wheels and especially from wheel through axle to opposite wheel. There is a certain gauge wire they recommend. I know someone who had a trailer where they ran a much lighter gauge wire through to the opposing wheel than recommended by Dexter. It caused the shoes to wear on one side faster than the other. I imagine that could be a huge issue from connector to all 4 wheels.

Not designed to be primary brakes only supplemental and you can only get so much friction out of magnets when your talking this much mass.

Havercamp, Thanks for the information. I posted this question about a month ago and all of the responses suggested that the brakes were not working as they should. My thoughts are that they are probably working as well as they can. They do grab hard, just never enough for the lockup that's mentioned in the brake controller set up guide.

Just to be sure (peace of mind), I will get them looked at in the spring, but I'm thinking that they are working normally.

You can "still" manually adjust auto adjusting brakes.

Try backing your camper up in a parking lot and use your brake controller manual apply lever to apply your trailer brakes.
Do this to hopefully adjust as well.

From Dexter;
"""Note: Not all trailer brakes are capable of wheel lockup. Loading
conditions, brake type, wheel and tire size can all affect whether
a brake can lock. It is not generally considered desirable to lock
up the brakes and slide the tires. This can cause unwanted flat
spotting of the tires and could also result in a loss of control."""

Supposedly the Dexter Never adjusts also adjust while applying them moving forward.

That was not the case on my 1974 4 door Ford Maverick chick magnet which only adjusted the drum brakes in reverse.

How can you manually adjust auto adjust brakes? My dealer took apart and showed me how they are suppose to operate and said the only way to adjust manually is to remove the auto adjuster and place a manual one in

Your dealer is an idiot.
Never adjust brakes still have a star wheel and access hole to adjust them.
