Brand new 2012 taking on water

Yes we are completely frustrated. We just went through a year long wait all the while making monthly payments. Got it back and discovered Forest River actually put moldy wood back into our trailer and well as worked around all the black mold covered wood. We had to pay $2500 to have it picked up and shipped back to us. After my kids and I started getting sick I knew something was wrong and spent our camping trip searching through the trailer and trying to remove what I could then gave up since most of it is attached to the body of the trailer and not just under the cabinets. Now we are told there has to be another "investigation" to determine why the crew at the factory put the mold back and left the mold there. So I guess I just continue every month paying for this trailer that I can't use! Very frustrating!!

Stand on top of the mold issue! Some molds can affect the health of your family as you have said.

I'm guessing that you are noting pointers from the OP as he was able to get FR to come to his dealer based on documentation to support his claim. Wished there were better news for the FR visit & outcome but even with the suggested soultion it looks like the problem still exists. He may be right about it being a design flaw which would be bad news for lots of owners.

Yes we are definitely staying on top of this it is so unacceptable to have them send it back to us with harmful mold still in it and I paid to have it shipped back. The leak started from our side bunk door and rear while it was closed. The gutters they had put on we're actually flush with the black rubber seals and water got in and flooded their entire back bunks,walls and floor plus standing water created other rot and mold in all the other types of wood throughout the rest of the trailer so it actually needed a proper restoration and we were in our second year warranty that we bought. Only the factory didn't restore it properly as promised so now we are waiting to see what our dealer plans to do and also the factory. We have been in limbo now for 2 weeks waiting to find out what will happen.

I will keep posting updates as I have them. Our Dealer is in touch with the same person in the warranty department.

Well I feel your pain... my bunks are leaking also. I was able to see today where it is coming in on my rear bunk, but the front bunk, I'm still not quite sure. I see the sides where the windows are, the rain is soaking through, but there is also isolated puddles on the bunk. The rear bunk also shows this but the majority of the water is coming down my tent pole also.
I have been talking to my dealer and they have been very supportive and have handle this very well. I will be taking it to them in October for repair. UnfortunatleyI have one more camping trip scheduled for thanksgiving so I can't take in before then. I will just have totarp off my bunk ends for that trip.

What year is your Roo? Yes you definitely need to get that fixed if the water is coming in like that. What I don't get is why they just don't replace them, recall them or buy them back from us. It is obviously a constant problem with leaks so just like a car would be recalled you would think it would happen with the Roos.

Yes we do need to stick together since it is a US company. Yes this is who my dealer is in contact with.

My dealer has been awesome to deal with with any of my warranty issues and especially the water issue. I have scheduled an appointment and I will work with them first then go from there.

Our dealer has been great to work with as well but it comes down to the factory and how much they are going to stand by their products. Just found out that they won't do anything more with our trailer even though their workers put back moldy wood and screws into the trailer and also worked around visible moldy wood replacing things around it but the moldy wood. Paying for a trailer that is a toxic mess! At this point I can't use it or sell it but stuck paying for it. Can't even wrap my head around why they would decline to not fix what they did.

Wow. Forest River should recall these newer models and replace the canvass with the old flap style. I have a 2008 Shamrock 19 (Roo twin) and I can weather a tropical storm without any water getting into the bunks. The new design was a nice idea but obviously a complete fail. I know the company doesn't want to lose the massive amount of money it would require to fix these but the alternative is likely going to be to lose a lot of future business from customers looking to upgrade that will now be completely frustrated and fed up with Forest River. I think they need to acknowledge the screw up and make this right for the folks that have this bunk / canvass issue.

That is why I have stalled about the delamination on my Fiberglass on my doors.

Reason for doing so was that I have been getting horrible feedback on the new bunk style with no flaps. that is the only door style they will replace it with.

I have a completely dry door with no leaks while on the road even under heavy rains.

I can live with a handful of bubbles on the doors. I know that is from condensation inside of the doors itself, but it is worth the wait until they get the new door situation figured out.

I have a friend who does fiberglass and said that he can inject an epoxy that will pull the bubbles in and glue it tight.

Found out today the dealer wants us to pay more for work that factory didn't do when they had it and the factory won't finish what they started and are choosing to leave the mold in our trailer making it unusable. Again we are expected to pay for a poorly made product that should have been leak proof from the start when it was built.

kwillmott - what is the reasoning behind the decision not to take care of the problem? How is the dealer involved in this? Is FR communicating with your directly or through someone else? I'm trying to figure out who all have fingers in the pie.

I wouldn't be a happy owner either.

Hi there well this is the thing, the factory had the dealer pay $2300 to ship it down there to Indiana in March and the factory tried to make us believe they did a complete restoration in 2 days. We had to keep sending pictures showing all the water damage and mold damage for them to keep fixing things. We get the final work order and pay $2500 for RV Transport to pick it up and meet my husband in Montana. He could only take a week off of work or else he would have driven to Indiana himself. He brings it home and we notice some things are off and not done so the dealer then fixes some things. Dealer notices a smell but it is the new tent ends. We go on our first camping trip in a year with the trailer and notice the factory linked our fresh water hose in 2 places the water can't run through so we had no water. Things start falling apart throughout the trailer and my kids and I start feeling sick. After searching high and low I start noticing hidden pieces of wood that have black mold, white dry rot and green powdery mold. Forest River actually used the original moldy wood and put it back and in other areas just left it. Dealer wants it back for another investigation takes pictures to confront factory and find out why they did this. Factory says they aren't doing any more work and I am trying to find out from the dealer what the factory's answer and reason is. Why did the worker put that wood back and not remove visible mold. Dealer now is offering me a mobile RV specialist to do the rest of this work for $1200. Why should I pay again? I just paid $2500 in July to have it brought back supposedly fixed already. We are trying to get the dealer/service manager to meet us to explain. They told us they would be in contact with Greg Rollins so we haven't spoken with FR.

Terier- so the clincher is I have a partially restored trailer with mold on parts of the trailer that are attached to walls and floors so things have to be taken apart by a professional to do this and put it back together. The factory already had it apart when they replaced the entire floor. Now if I don't pay the factory doesn't want it, I can't sell it to anyone as it is toxic and I can't use it but I am still expected to make monthly payments on it. Feel like I don't have any way out of this mess. Trailer has been all money out and no real enjoyment yet and it is only 3 years old and we were without it for a year so barely used it over 2 summers. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Has anyone been in this situation before ?

Man - that has to be very frustrating. This seems like one of those scenarios that you wouldn't believe unless the owner told you.

What a terrible position for the dealer and manufacturer to leave a customer in.

I hate to be "that guy" but I think I would seek legal counsel. You paid for the restoration and the problem remains and it is a problem that renders your RV unusable and unsellable. You will essentially be out your entire investment plus the original repair costs unless this is fixed. Now they are asking for more money to redo their own work correctly and you are basically being held hostage.
