Broken outside handle of the screen door

2013 Forest River Shamrock 183 by Flagstaff

Looking to find a decent replacement for the outside handle of the screen door or a way of modifying for a different set up

I had purchased the below( all medal construction) only to get it and it does not have a hole in the back to except the inside handle.

RV Designer T525, Screen Door Latch, Trimark https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CXBF1EE..._kVAzDb8DX1GMQ

I found this online and reached out to the manufacturer but only the inside handle and bracket is metal everything else is plastic including the outside handle.

What is everyone else doing?Click image for larger version

That’s where i ordered my replacement. It’s pretty flimsy as well though so it won’t last long.

Lots of past discussions about this on the board. Do a forum search for "door latch" and you'll find some sources mentioned.

I replaced my broken handle with another plastic one and it lasted years. A bit of silicone spray on all moving parts will help.

I ended up ordering the whole set with the metal inside door latch. I'll have to try the silicone spray on the outside one.

I had no trouble finding metal replacement latch at a local, small, RV dealer, so it shouldn't take much to find one. Fit perfectly and much stronger than the plastic.

Those are plastic. The one I ordered before was a metal and looked the exact same as those but on the back side that goes against the door there wasn't a notched out area that allows the inside handle to work that outside latch

That's a picture of the back side of my latch that is up against the door. The metal one that I had bought off the internet did not have that oblong cut out to accept the nub from the inside handle. And if you look at all the other ones on Walmart and Amazon none of them show you the picture of the back side. Click image for larger version

So shared your frustration trying to find the part & worked with Jim @ https://www.thatsforthebirds.com/store/No-15296FG-Atwood-Style-10-15296A-Screen-Door-Replacement-Latch-&-Catch-p126187866 to get that part made.

We are still using the original inside handle in combo with the new outer part & it is working great. We did have a bit of jiggling things to get them to go together well & Jim was more than willing to make sure this worked great for us.

Did get the little freezer cop too ... when we leave the camper set up for a couple days & we aren't there I have peace in the frig / freezer not having done a thaw & freeze cycle on me.

Very happy with the results and happy with this little company!!

Freeze a little water in a paper cup. Put a dime on top.

Lots cheaper than a $7 freezer cop.
