Electric Water Heater

Hi guys, I recently purchased a used 2017 ROO 23ikss (and by recently I mean yesterday. And by used I mean once). So it is basically brand new. Didn't really get a PDI so I am just jumping in to it. This is my 3rd trailer so I am not new to the trailer way of life but I did have a few question for you folks:

I noticed on the control panel a switch for the electric hot water heater. There is also a switch on the unit its self. Do I need both on to heat the water? Can I always leave the switch on at the tank and use the one on the panel to operate it? Does the one on the panel even do anything?

Thanks!

You didn't tell us which heater you have... but from your description, it appears to be a Suburban. If it's like the others, the switch inside turns on the propane circuitry and the switch on the heater face turns on the electric heater circuitry (don't turn this one on until you have validated the heater is full of water!!). You can run these fuel sources independently or simultaneously.

This FAQ should help, and also determine if you have the SWDE model or SWDEL. Both are explained in the link:

It's possible you do, but you want to verify for sure. You also want to make sure that the inside switch you are referring to is to the water heaters electric element (not the DSI) and also not to a holding tank heater.

Love the electric option for heating the water. Save propane when you can. Absolutely have water in the heater! I understand it's an expensive mistake if it is empty. We leave a reminder hanging by the camper keys to turn off electric water heater first thing when we are closing up camp.
