F250 Powerstoke

For anyone with an F250 Powerstoke.

Pro's/con's.

Have been comparing this truck with the Ram 2500. Like the ride in both, Ram was a little more comfortable. Aluminum body of the Ford is appealing. I have friends towing with the Ram 2500 currently, but no experience with the F250.

LOL!

PowerStrokes have had there issues in the past for sure.

I still prefer Ford over Fiats and Government Motors though..

Whatever you buy get at least a 100K bumper to bumper warranty. It is when it gets older that the trucks start costing you big bucks. That goes across all brands...

If going Ford, I suggest F350 SRW over F250. They are essentially the same, and in some cases they are identical. The reason I bring it up are:
The F350 SRW will have a higher GVWR.
The ride will be the same due to them being the same. Cost difference between an F250 and an F350 SRW is very little.

The Ram 2500 has coil springs which may ride better (I have never ridden in one). The Ram 3500 SRW would, like the F350 SRW, give you a higher GVWR... however I think the Ram 3500 SRW, unlike the Ram 2500 SRW, has leaf springs so the ride may be different.

I like Ford, however the Cummins has a better reputation. Other than bragging rights (and I have no idea who wins that nowadays because it is silly) there is no reason to question the torque / hp numbers from any of the big three. They all have amazing power and can pull more than the truck will allow.

Think I'll just sit back in my recliner with an adult beverage and watch this one develop.

Posted my comment and unsubscribed from the thread. No point in microwaving a bag of buttered popcorn for this one. Too many others to choose from.

The RAM will ride nicer - the coils and airbags in the rear see to that - but the payload will be less; potentially MUCH less, and the airbag system can be complicated and pricey to repair, if or when it needs it.

The 6.7 Powerstroke is a fantastic engine - but Ford's still tainted a bit by the stigma of 6.0 and 6.4 diesels... Cummins is a solid plant, but the fit and finish on the Ram just isn't as nice, IMO.

I bought my latest truck about a year and a half ago... GM/Chev, Ram, and Ford are all nice rides - some advantages and draw backs to each. I found the lower payload and smaller back seat in the Ram a deal breaker; the GM dealer didn't give me the time of day, and the Ford dealer had a truck with all my needs, all my wants, and then some, at a price I liked... so I drive a Ford.

If you are looking at a 250/2500 class - goto a 350/3500 - on the Ford's it's all of about 2 grand more from the 250 to the 350; and while there's very little physical difference (on the Ford's, the 250 gets a 2" block on the rear, 350's get a 4" - the other differences like overload springs, etc - depend on the features on the truck... An f250 with the plow prep and camper package, for instance, will only have the spacer block different from a 350...) - but the ratings and stickers will be higher.

There are many here that will tell you towing heavy is no big deal, they've used their 88 F150 to tow a 42' 5ver with a bass boat behind it for 17 years, and that if you can't do it, it's because you're a girly-man with no driving skills - just add airbags and e-rated tires, and anything will tow anything... But, there's an emerging trend in some personal injury lawyers, to start checking weights and ratings in the event of an accident; some DOT's are also starting to put RV's through scales... That extra payload or GCVW sticker may come in handy one day. That's a personal judgement.

It will eventually come down to what you like best. We like our F-250. Have had 3 of them. I would love to get into a new '17 (or likely '18), but man, those prices. Cripes. I do like my truck though. We felt the Ford was just more comfortable than the Chevy, and it seemed a little "tighter" than the Dodge. But all three trucks were nice.

I wish you luck, and keep us posted.

My vote is for Ford. Not a fan of Rams, but if you go that route get the Aisin(sp?) Transmission.
