Doesn't require anything special. Wheel bearing grease is what I use because I always have some around. Big thing is to cover the hitch when not hooked up.

A split tennis ball at the least over the ball itself to keep dirt from covering it while you drive around unhitched. Even better, cover the whole hitch assembly with a plastic bag, even if it's removed and stored.
