Furnace and hot water issues

Not sure if this will make sense but hopefully someone can give us some advice. First time owners here of a 2007 Rockwood Roo 21ss it appears we have a short somewhere in the hot water tank wiring only found this when a friend of ours was looking at the slide out motor which is fine turned out to be the battery but in the process when the camper was plugged in he would get a slight shock when touching the camper body. Ended up turning off the breaker for hot water tank and no more shock.
We also tried testing the furnace this past weekend to see if it worked and it doesn't even turn on maybe we are not doing something like lighting a pilot or something. ANy help would be greatly appreciated as we are first time camper owners?

If your are getting shocked sounds to me like you have a wiring issue. I would trace the wires coming from the hot water heater and look for bare wires rubbing against something. You need to resolve that issue before you go any further.

Not sure if your water heater has a electronic ignition. If it does and it's getting power then you don't have to manually light the pilot. The tell tale sign here e would be a switch on your control panel where the tank and light switches are labeled Water Heater DSI )Direct Spark Ignition.

If you don't have DSI you need to light the pilot to the hot water heater manually by following these instructions https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=...GytMPmcWZ0Ao41

Since the shock goes away when you turn off the water heater breaker you have a couple of problems.

1) Your 120 volt element is bad, allowing power to flow through the water to ground and thereby making a hot skin issue.
2) Your RV isn't grounded as it should be. You need to check the ground at the incoming power and throughout the system until you find where the ground isn't connected.

As for the furnace there should be a fuse in the power panel for it. Test it to see if it's good.

Furnace works via a thermostat. When it's 95°F outdoors it's unlikely the furnace will turn on. These typically have the blower come on first to clear any latent fuel in the system and them the burner will ignite -- if it's cold enough.

If you know what you're doing you can temporarily jumper the thermostat to run regardless of the temperature. But even then you need adequate propane gas pressure in the system.
