Generator

So I'm looking into getting s generator soon, starting to shop around now, I see that the inverter ones seem safer for delicate electronics and such, are these better? And any suggestions on what to look into?

Your are going to get many suggestions. There are many long threads here on generators. Lots of decisions to make before you start looking. Where will it be used, what are you powering, how often will you be using it etc.. Inverter generators are more expensive, produce cleaner power and are generally quieter. Check the places you plan to stay on their generator requirements. Do a quick search on generators.

Most state parks here in my allow you to run any generator between a certain timeframe, I just basically want the generator to provide power to the camper and or to just recharge the battery

Consider one that also runs on propane. Cleaner burning. 20 lb tank equals 5 gal gas.

If you're going to state parks, and will have others close to you, do them a favor and get an inverter genny. The rules may allow you to run "any" generator but using the quietest one possible when around others is basic campground etiquette. You wont make many friends, and you'll be sure to get lots of dirty looks, if you fire up a run of the mill standard generator at a state park.

They also have noise level limitations that the cheaper open-frame contractor style generators exceed.

Here's the questions you need to answer :

Do you want to run the a/c?
Do you want quiet more than cheap?
Where do you plan to carry it?

Inverter generators are better in every way but they cost more.
You can go with the Gold standard of Honda or Yamaha.
Or there are newer less expensive choices :
Champion, Boliy, Kipor, Lifan, Robinson and some others.

from Camping Things To Know - NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

Generator Hours are 9am to 11am and 5pm to 9pm. If the use of a generator is deemed unreasonably loud by the facility staff, an individual's use of the generator may be limited and/or prohibited.

So you need to look at Inverter generators

I wonder what they would say if I fired up my dual exhaust truck at 7am to run coffeemaker off my inverter since generator hours don't start until 9am? Many parents NEED that liquid relief!

Many parks in Michigan have now banned any of the open framed generators. Must be a closed unit like a Yamaha or Honda units, There trying to keep the noise down. I hate it when we are out camping and somebody fires up a loud generator and you can hear yourself think.

Ya know, there's lots of coffee making options out there, that don't require electricity.

Thanks for the motivation. Spent two hours working on Champion 2000 generator. Had to stop the surging. Opened up unit cleaned everything from pilot jet to filters. Running like its new. Even removed dead mouse. Remember to use fresh gas and run dry when not in use. We use only to charge batteries and DW straightening iron.

had the same issues with a honda 1000 after some good use and i year in storage need to pull spark arestor and clean good along with the spark plug , jet and carb . but always ran good Almost as good as my chamipons 4000/3500 & 2000 inverter . at altitude needed to clean the 2000 spark arestor after about 50 hrs . need to find a high alt jet for it as champion does not have one for the 2000 but the did for the 3500

We bought this Champion inverter generator last fall and have used it on several trips. It starts on the first pull every time and the noise level is very acceptable. It will run the AC and pretty much anything else (just not all at once). We've been very pleased with it.
