Help! manual awning 183 Roo
We are new to our 2013 Roo 183 with a manual awning (only dealt with bag awnings). I watched videos of other awning operations, but don’t want to force it.
I can’t find the black strap most mention.
I have the upright clips unlatched and the right end switched to unroll and started to roll it out. It feel like I’m forcing it too much or is it just tension. I’ll post a pic

Suggest you download the awning manual from Dometic.
Model # should be on the tube.

Yeah, where is the black strap. That strap has a TEE on one end that slides into the awning roller light slot and the other end has a loop for unrolling and rolling back up. The strap will roll up with the awning and the loop will be visible for unrolling pull down against the tension springs. Must have been fun without the strap.

Just a note. The strap needs to be in the center when rolling up so equal pressure at both ends when pulling down. That metal shaft you have should have a 90 deg bend at one end for moving the lever lock on one end and also is used to reach the strap loop to start the pull down. It also is used to allow the awning to slowly retract with the shaft in the loop. The strap need not be removed with the awning extended just slide the strap to one end and wrap around one of the struts.
To hack522. I also have the electric but the manual is 100% more robust and it does have built in tie downs (carport configuration). There's always a trade off.

You have an electric awning and you have misinterpreted what I said. The strap for the manual awning is only used for the extending/retracting of the awning. The manual awning arms (where they are attached to the rv) can be disconnected and put in an upright position and secured to the ground with stakes. This configuration is called "the carport configuration". Our electric awnings do not have any alternate configurations and no use for the strap except for rolling up the awning when the motor craps out.

Gotcha. I am able to unwind by hand if so desired. My arms are not detachable though as you pointed out. Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you bubbles. Didn’t see the black strap. Will have to pull out again and take a look. I was able to co from the retract by having a person on each end. However wouldn’t be fun with only 1 person.

You could not over look the strap if you had one, you don't. Amazon has them and they are easy to replace.

Here's a picture. If your unit is new it could be stowed anywhere inside.
