How big is your rig?

Newbie question. I have been making reservations for our 233s and the campsites talk about “rig max length” or, what “what size is your rig”. Are they always referring to the length of the Roo or do they want me to include the length of my TV (2020 F350)?

Now that sir is an excellent question. I've always wondered why they do not define the question. How about if you are in a class C or A and towing a toad or trailer? There should be several replys on this topic.

They want to know the length of your RV to make sure they assign you a site that will fit your equipment. Give them the length of your RV only.

This is exactly what I (would) do.

It depends....... best to ask but usually the RV only.

Where we go mostly it is the overall length of the camper. If you fudge and it sticks out in the road you are asked to leave the campground, because all 850 sites are usually full in the summer months.

Depends on where you are making reservations. Most, but not all, want the length of your trailer.
When we were towing a trailer and there was a comment section, I'd usually put the length of the truck plus trailer. The trailer itself was 21', but combined with the truck it was 40'. Sometimes it made a difference because of turning radius to get into the site.

Thanks, eye95. I always get nervous (well...i always get nervous anyways) but my TV is 21’ and my Roo is 25’. That’s a lot of feet when they try to jam me in a space fit for a nice 25’ TT.

I just give em the TH length. The truck can be parked creatively. Aside from that, no one I have found has a spot for 62' rigs. Lol.

I understand the argument as to what length.

BTW.....tonight we’re at a KOA with easy-on/easy-off access to a major highway for people passing by. They have 110’ pull throughs just for those with the biggest of rigs who can’t seem to leave some stuff at home

If i know i can overhang the back bed off the site pad (most cases), i give them the 25 feet closed length. If i can't overhang, then I give the 30 feet open length (and yes i frequent one campground where the sites are back to back and sticking the back bed over the fence into the neighboring site would be frowned upon).

The 233s has the side bed. Some places I have stayed are narrow and I would either have no "porch" or not be able to use that bed.

Now that is something I could use for a 1 nighter! Mostly hit truck stops for that though. It would be such a pain to unhook for a 7 hour stay.

just the trailer length, as they 'build in' the fact that 'something' will be pulling it...

for Class A's, it's the same, and they also reason that you might be 'pulling' something...but if you're not, the site is probably plenty big for much larger rigs .... we've seen 25' Max sites that are 42' long.... you can do a satellite overview on google maps and 'measure it' with their tool...

Alberta Provincial parks require the total length of both. You can fib if it’s close.

Just use the length of your trailer...

Our rig is 54' long when hitched... I don't think we would be able to go anywhere if we had to list the total length.

This was something I had forgotten to consider when we purchased our latest trailer and inadvertently locked us out of most state parks. Those sites are on average a maximum of 40', the trailer is 43', and the caravan is 58-59' depending on if the spare tire counts.

Camp grounds that have online reservation systems can show if they have a slot big enough when you put the trailer length in if not posted their max length. Otherwise you need to call and ask. Thankfully our yearly stop has big enough pull throughs for what we now have.

X2 with those who say the campground is usually looking for the RV length - but I generally make reservations by phone if I've never been to that campground before. That way, I can let them know our combined length is 56' so we can get a pull-though campsite that will work for overnight stays and so we get adequate maneuvering room if we need to back into a site for longer stays.

The length of my trailer varies on what campgrounds I am going to or I should say ones that I have been to and usually frequent My actual length is 32ft so that is the starting point...

I usually say I'm longer like 34 to 36 ft which gets me one of the larger sites in the campground if available and if the campground won't assign a site for me at time of reservation

We used to go to Pismo Beach RV resort in CA they would ask the length and I would say 28ft because if I said 32ft they would often say they don't have any large sites available 28ft was the cut off....so the campground had more smaller sites then larger so it was easier to get in. Never had any issues.

Funny how a guy with a 17ft trailer is put on the smallest site that he can fit on and pays the same rate as the guy with a 45ft motorhome that has tons of room

For trailers they assume you'll be parking your tow vehicle either in the space or nearby. Most campgrounds will have room for the TV nearby. Reviews of the park will often mention a lack of TV parking if the park doesn't have adequate space.
