Inline water filter leaking - pulled it out today

I have read that a lot of posts that the inline FR1 water filters start to leak. This weekend ours did as well. I have a 2016 Shamrock 183.

I decided to pull it out since I have been using an inline filter from Walmart that connects outside. I have attached the pictures. The only thing I still need to do is secure the plumbing so it's not just bouncing around.

I just replaced the factory filter with a standard home canister type. If you have no water hook up and need to use your tank you will have no filter.

Use unfiltered water to flush or bathe in? Oh my...

you still have a hidden source of leaks with the home filter bouncing down the highway...

buy bottled water to drink...

Good job...it's an easy fix, and many of us have done it...your pics are great to help others contemplating doing the same...imagine if that thing popped off when you are out and about for a couple hours or in the middle of the night...brings me to my next point...when leaving for a couple hours...shut the water supply off outside at the spigot!

All good points. My wife had zero interest in ever having a trailer. 3 summers later I knew she was digging it when she bought a "Happy Camper" t-shirt! Part of the deal was No camping without full hook ups. [emoji6]

1. You do what you want. I have seen some really nasty water at campgrounds.

2. Not if installed properly.

3. Why pay for something that you get for free? I wish I had your money.

Good job and one many have done.

We filter all water going in, through an external filter, whether it be city water or the water that goes in our fresh tank.

Every unit purchased that had an onboard take had it removed before the 1st trip. We always leave with a FW full tank, use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Always an inline filter on the hose as well.

Camping up here in Glacier Mt, I noticed a large wet spot under my RW 2608. Quickly dertermined it was said filter. Took the filter off, cleaned it up a bit, and reinstalled it
with a extra twist with the plastic wrench that came with the unit and problem
solved. I ckecked it a bunch of times and still
dry. I guess I got lucky.

Which filter canister model do you have? The FR1 or the CCI? The FR1 is the model that always gets reported as leaking. The CCI is fine. We've had 2 CCIs and neither has leaked.

FR1

Now you just need to add a pressure tank in that spot

YUP ... for now those are key words there ...we actually figured out a way to use that wrench & wedge it to hold the canister on when it failed the next time... 2 trips later. Totally changed out our filter unit & so far, so good (always carry lots of extra towels)

Question. Someone mentioned that I need a water tank now that I removed my inline filter. Thoughts?

The filter I removed was the FR1.

After the first winter, I also removed my in-line filter. (Much more convenient and cheaper to just use the in-line filter on my hose.)

TIP: When winterizing, the thing will take about half a gallon or so of the red stuff but a sealed (empty) bottle of Snapple will fit right in there and not require nearly as much antifreeze.

ycj, I believe Herk was being a little bit facetious; but could have been serious, too.

A number of people have installed a pressure tank (aka accumulator tank) where their filter used to be. The tank is typically around 2-3 gallons. It has a bladder in the middle with pressurized air on one side and your water on the other. It acts as a "reservoir" and lets you flush the toilet a couple times or wash your hands without requiring the pump to run. As with so many other subjects on this forum, this one has it's proponents and it detractors.

Homes that have well water systems typically use accumulator tanks, only they're much larger.

Here's more info:
