License plate mounts broken - tips?

When taking off my winter cover I had one casualty. The license plate got caught and the mounts snapped (rather easily I might add). The mount is part of the rear light. Any tips for a replacement that doesn't include replacing the light?

You can buy the whole assembly for around $12 (that's what I paid for mine because I needed a new lens, it was cheap enough to just buy the complete assembly)

Thanks. Good idea. Even if only temporarily.

Thanks. I might change to LED. So would consider it then.

Bought a cheap flat metal lisc. plate mount at a trailer parts store and mounted it behind the light can't tell its there. Now the plate mounting tabs are metal. I would attach a picture if the trailer was here.

Plastic never rusts. Steel does. Probably oriental steel at that.

Plastic dry rots and breaks alot faster than steel rusts ( if coated) Our plastic tabs broke off, last year on our 2013 as well....... never had metal ones rust off and currently my oldest trailer is a 1980.

Hi Bob, I think the OP like mine the plastic just dry rotted and broke off on their own. Mine hang under the trailer about 3 inches and mostly the air movement worked on their destruction They were very brittle.

Steel does rust, but it stays intact and your license plate doesn't fall off.

As the OP stated, his plastic tabs are broken. On my past camper, I made two aluminum tabs to mount to the rear light assy and hang down for my license plate. When these plastic tabs break Im sure I will be doing the same for this one too.

I have the same lights on our camper. Had to replace the one with the license plate tabs not because of the license plate part but because I managed to break one of the tabs that holds the lense on. I found the same exact light available at etrailer.com and very reasonably priced. If I remember right they also have available the license plate mount only.

I like to use copper wire

I boondock with all of my trailers. I've found it is best to have a flexible mount. The license plate can move forward or backward, so it you hit something with it, or catch the cover on it, it just moves, and then gravity forces it back to vertical. I use 10 or 12 ga. Romex, and strip the heavy cover off. I run the wire through a couple of times and twist it off. I've never lost one.

It might be worth an email to FR. They may just send you a replacement. Mine broke and they sent me a new one. I was still under warranty though.

You can paint the plastic tabs part to protect it from the UV deterioration and that will help it not dry rot as quickly.
