Loading a sxs on a Roo 21SSL

Trying to find any info on loading a side by side UTV on the cargo deck of my Roo 21SSL, then rotating it so it is facing forward. Any help and/or links? Thanks.

I'm seeing 1800 pound empty weights for the smallest Gator and a 9' length. Cargo capacity of the Roo 21SSL is 1600 pounds and 8' square...

The deck cap is actually 1300 pounds for my model. There are 2 seat sxs from polaris right at the 1000 pound mark, 102 inches at the shortest, so it's doable. Probably used the wrong term "UTV" on the first post.

Even still, that 1,000 lbs is counted against your CCC of 1600 lbs. You didn't list what your TV is. Your dry hitch weight is just shy of 500 lbs. This, plus your SxS alone makes for a lot of TW on a bumper pull.

You keep writing "sxs" in lower case as if we'll all know what you mean. Tell us the size and weight of the "sxs" and more help will appear. Only SXS (in caps) I could find were the Gators (brand) which are all too big and too heavy for the trailer unless the camper body is stripped of any extra weight. Truck is more than capable, it's the trailer.

Polaris Rzr side by side - 106 inches long, 50 inches wide, weight about 1150 pounds is an example of what I'm looking at.

Thanks, probably work for weight if you pay close attention to weight. Gonna be a lot of weight on the ball. Total cargo capacity -- meaning everything, not just the deck -- of the Roo (from specs I've seen) is 1600 pounds and this will only leave you 400 pounds for everything else including batteries, LP, water, firewood, and everything else.

No idea how to rotate it 90° twice (on and back off) though. Fit a folding jack or remove the jack and support the trailer another way and drive it up on the deck from the front?

Setting aside all other issues, any "turntable" mechanism or slideable platform on your expanded steel mesh (or similar) cargo deck may either weigh a lot or be slick as snot--eliminating any "traction" advantage between the UTV's tires and the deck. Your tie downs will be ALL that holds that thing from joining you in the back seat of your tow vehicle (TV).

Since other parts of the thread already question the load capacity of your Roo's cargo deck, I'll pass on that subject, but adding weight to create a turntable type of effect once loaded will simply complicate that issue far beyond any reasonable weight limits.

Getting down to the nitty gritty, a key measurement is the DIAGONAL length (C) of the UTV as you spin it.
Simple math...basic algebra. For simplicity's sake, let's assume your UTV is 106 inches (A) long and 50 (B) inches wide as you suggest. To get the diagonal length, you must do
A-squared + B squared = C squared. Then take the square root of C.

A=106 x 106 = 11,236
B=50 x 50 = 2,500
C=Total = 13,736
Square Root of C (let the calculator do the work) = about 117+ inches.

So, your 106 inch long UTV needs 118 inches to spin and not be dragging on the camper body or the front railing.

According to Forest River, the front cargo deck is only 96" long and 96" wide.
https://www.parrisrv.com/product/new...1ssl-1081025-4

You need to give up on the idea of spinning the UTV once on the deck. You will have no problems keeping the wheelbase of your 106" UTV on the deck in the crossover position, but I believe the max legal width for a trailer and cargo is 8' 6", and you exceed that by 4". You might get a ticket now and then...probably not. But if you want a UTV that fits fore-and-aft on that deck, you're going to have to buy a MUCH smaller UTV...and THEN figure out how to spin it.

If you go forward with this 106" long Razor, I suggest you get some high quality streamers to hang off the UTV bumpers, AND get some removable "side marker" lights to clamp to the front and rear bumpers of the UTV. The markers will do far less for other drivers than they will to remind you about that extra width - 5 inches on either side of your trailer.

Lastly, with a conventional TV, an 8-feet-wide RV is already wide. Your truck mirrors (assuming your TV is the truck it needs to be to haul this 7500# - or more - load) will already struggle to see around this thing. Hang another 5" of view obstruction out either side, and you're going to need some decent mirror extensions on your TV. They need to be good ones, because this is all that you'll have to see behind and along side of you. You might even consider a rear mounted, continuously on camera to deal with this obstructed view.

I don't give up that easy, and I've seen it done, just haven't seen how they do it.

The math is important, but its the tires/wheelbase measurement that counts. Wheelbase of 80", width of 50" gives me a diagonal wheel to wheel of 95", within the confine of the 96" deck. There is no limitation on swinging body parts outside the 96" deck front and sides - the rails either remove, fold down, or won't be in the way due to height.

Not going to build or fabricate any device or turntable, agree there. I have a couple ideas I'll try on a large utility ATV first, be a good trial run. I'll post results if I get around to purchasing the side by side.

Thanks anyway.

might work but you'll need a solid surface, not expanded metal and they add more to the length too

Thank you, wheel dollies are on the short list. Think they may roll easier if I put a outdoor rug down over the grating first.

actually if the the SXS in the back of the toy hauler the counter weight action should lighten the pin weight by a %.

we have a 38 foot KZ 331TH12 and the pin weight is close to 1900 lbs. add the SXS we were running in the back and the weight of the unit decreased that pin weight.

you can purchase a set of scales for the pin weight and confirm for yourself though. here is a string regarding your very topic I believe.

However the unit in question isn’t a toy hauler and the “garage” is on the front, not in the rear.

This is a Roo hybrid with the deck is over the tongue and was probably designed to haul children's bicycles and firewood, not ATVs.

If you have any luck loading 10# of UTV into a 5# bag, let us know. The Razor you crave is at least 10 inches longer than the deck, and to spin it, the space needs to be 22 inches longer than the cargo deck.

I found this doing a Google search.

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...r-s-47892.html

Personally, I would not do it. I don’t think Rockwood envisioned putting a big 4x4 on the deck. All the literature mentions bicycles and portable totes.

Re the deck - weight is weight, whether bicycles, wood or quads, as long as distributed and secured properly. It is equipped with 2 heavy steel, high weight rated (750 lbs each) loading ramps specifically designed to attach to the deck and load a rolling machine, which the dealer had used to load a large quad on the deck for advertising purposes.

I'm just looking for any ideas and/or experience (both good or bad) where someone tried, or did this, under similar circumstances and limitations.

Itat - I did see that post, thanks though. I don't want to hang over the sides or cut rails to make that work. But again, thanks. And I agree, I'm pushing the limits on what it was designed to do, but just have to see.

From the linked post 6 years ago. Perhaps there's follow up?
