Glad your trip went well. I wish we our campgrounds looked as nice here in SoCal - love the fire pit. Your son looks like a little happy camper.

PA state parks have come a long way, but it still ticks me off that I, as a 40 year-old adult, cannot sit around my campfire and enjoy a beer in a PA state park. I guess they assume we're not mature enough to handle our beers and camping at the same time. As such, I avoid PASPs as much as possible. I don't even drink, really, but it's the idea that I'm NOT ALLOWED that just bugs me.

Congrats on the Roo, it was a lousy week (weather-wise) here in PA, but the wife and I just returned from Otter Lake today. What a nice place, lots of wildlife, kid and dog friendly, and well kept. We'll be going there again sometime. Happy camping!

All the TN state Parks are the same way. I spoke with some cops that were camped next to us who were drinking barley flavored water out of red solo cups. They said as long as you don't act a fool, the rangers wont bug you. 2 years later, I am discrete and quiet regarding my drinking. Never a reason for the ranger to visit. My thoughts. Ymmv.

As a retired ranger from TN state parks after 30 years I can assure you that I had other things to do than check to see what you were drinking out of your cup by the fire. Waving around a bottle was a different story. Rules even changed from prohibiting possession to no public display. If you act like an adult and don't display no one is going to bother you.

First off--how I wish that were true in PASPs--you, sir, sound like you have a shred or two of common sense rolling around your cerebral matter--as opposed to most PA DCNR Park Rangers, who seem to wait behind the bushes for you to crack open a beer and then pounce like bored lions stalking wildebeasts. Really? Is this really necessary?

Second--congrats on your retirement! Only 25 more years to go (if I'm lucky.)

Third--to the OP, sorry about the thread hijack, glad you got some early season use out of the Roo. If we don't use 'em, then we're just making a payment to the bank every month for nothing! Camp on!
