Mice in the Shamrock.

Went out today looking for my sandals for an upcoming trip and found mice in the drawer under the stove. It looked like the bedding was insulation, but we couldn't find any place that had the stuffing pulled out. We filled every nook and cranny with mouse poison and moth balls. I'm going to have a ton of cleaning come spring. Should I check again this winter or just let it go?

Please don't use poison. Rodents eat it and leave to find water. They are then eaten by raptors or family pets. Several dozen Eagles have been killed in Maryland this year alone from eating poisoned rodents.
Snap traps or Essential oil of peppermint work well.

Continue checking regularly. Had this happen a few years back. Set traps and moth balls everywhere including outside. Stopped them. I check every couple of weeks once it's in storage for the winter. Good luck.

The only thing that has worked consistently for us is finding and blocking all the access points. We use brass scouring pads cut to fit, followed by Pestblock expanding foam.

For your situation, for now I suggest plenty of snap traps, checked regularly! I have used peanut butter with great success.

These are our methods as well.

There are TONS of prior posts about these pesky buggers and hundreds of suggestions. We've tried them all and blocking entry points and snap traps are the only things that work consistently.

do not use poison. although decomposing mice do not smell they will find a wall cavity and go there to die.

We leave all our drawers open. mice seem to like closed drawers and cupboards to nest in - apparently less cold air movement around them.
there are non chemical products on the market which repel mice and rats.
check them out. .

I never found the snap traps to be of any good. I have had much better luck using sticky traps. Scented or add a dab of peanut butter works great.

You have to get good ones and Victor brand are the best.
They will catch mice.

The Dollar Store/Economy brands are worthless.

We use Fresh Cab. It is a deterrent. Get it at you local farm store. Works great

The most effective thing is a good cat that loves to hunt. We live in the country and regularly had mouse problems until we got a good cat. Now the only problem we have is that she sometimes climbs on things that I don't want her to (like my truck) and we pretty regularly have to clean up our entrance mat where she has left us a wonderful gift of some type of nicely cleaned up mouse organ.

You could try a camera. THey sell cameras for use in the woods that detect movement and snap a picture. This would tell you where they are getting in, then you could block it.

Great if you live in the country... not so much if you're trailer is stored somewhere "away".

Victor traps are definitely good. We bought some reusable ones and they've worked equally well. Easy to clean, too!

I've been giving these a try:

https://www.amazon.com/Original-Plan...use+trap&psc=1

They require water for the mice to drown in so I've just been using RV anitfreeze.

No trap resetting necessary.

There has been plenty discussion here that Fresh Cab is no longer available.
The company is now marketing something similar under the name Stay Away.

There has been great speculation as to why it isn't available all the way from EPA problems to ingredients simply not available.

Do you still have it at your local stores?
None around here have stock and it isn't available online from the manufacturer or other sources.

BTW... We used it and the mice made nests out of it.

And don't get me started on Bounce sheets or cloves!

Note the urine stain on the sheet, and the droppings to the right of the pile of cloves.

Moth balls are useless. Don't bother with them. I had mice eat through the transmission harness once and the engine harness another time. I had so many mothballs around and in the RV it smelled for a year afterwards until I sold it. I would move the RV or make sure you have the thing seriously rodent proof. They can do a lot of damage.

This is the best idea, for determining their entry! I use these, around my bird seed containers. Put peanut butter in the cup, AND on the inside of the top. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/jt-...SABEgIkFPD_BwE
