New 183 Specs

Anyone out there know why, according to Rockwoods site, the dry weight and cargo capacity are different between the ‘18 and ‘19 183? Did they change frames or axles? Looks like the ‘19s are a little over a hundred pounds lighter. More importantly the cargo capacity went from 750 to almost 1500lbs!

What did they changes to make that big a difference?

my guess is bigger axles the ones the put in there were so under rated

I fired off an email to Rockwood. I’ll post back with what they reply. If it is just the axles and probably tires I would consider upgrading my ‘18. We’re always stressing over what to bring and what to leave home cause of the limited cargo capacity.

On my 2015 Roo19 the axles are rated at 2200lbs each for a total GVW of 4400lbs, however after speaking with Dexter when purchasing brakes I found out that the axle and spindles are actually 3500lb running gear(hubs and spindles) but sprung for 2200lbs for a softer ride. This should give a pretty good safety margin in my opinion.

That's good to know because I never bothered to care about the weight anyhow. If I was going to keep the camper( beyond this season) I wanted to install bigger tanks and heavier axles. I really want a hybrid with 3,500lb + axles and 100 gallon tanks

This must be why I purchased the wrong bearings and seals....the axles on my 233s are labeled 3000 lbs but the bearings are for a 3500 lb axle, as specified in the Dexter manual that came with the trailer!

I also changed to load range D Carlisle Radial Trail HD tires and load anything I want.
