New to a travel trailer

Hello all. Just upgraded to a 2014 23RS from a Jayco pop-up. Wondering if there are any other 23RS owners out there and if they have any advice, tips, and/or tricks. Also planning a cross country trip this summer with the wife and four little boys. We happen in conjunction with my military move back to the east coast from Idaho. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your 23RS! We're brand new Roo owners (23IKSS) so can't give much advice, but I'm sure you and your family will have lots of fun. Thank you for your service to our nation!

Congrats on the new camper, welcome to the forum and have fun! Thanks for your service as well, I have 11yrs in Air Force. Check out some of the military campgrounds, they have some really nice spots out there and there are some good sites and even apps out there that give alot of information on them.

Good luck with the trailer, I'm sure someone with the same trailer will chime in soon.

Congratulations on the new trailer and welcome to the forum. Thank you, too, for your service. I have a son who is also Navy, he has just over 17 years in.

He is at the Office of Naval Intelligence just outside of Washington, DC now, but his last billet was in Indianapolis. You're in Idaho. Last time I checked, no oceans touch either of those states.

pringcl..... as you already may be thinking..... everyone here has told a small fib about helping you .... Everyone here may not have the same type of unit as you do, but we all have advice to give freely in many areas. But where to start...? and where to stop... in what can be said? We all want to welcome you to the Forum, but as polite gentlemen, we do not know your level of understanding and do not want to talk over or under that point with you.... until at least we all know each other better from newly met to old friends around the camp fire .

Is there anything specific that you want to know about for now, because you have left the field wide open, and even I (who is very long winded) do not want to wade across it at this time.

Congrats on your new camper that you and your family will enjoy for many years to come.

Welcome to the Forum

Congrats on camper and thank you for your service. I'm a nervous mom as my 18 year old son is speaking to the Coast Guard on Monday. (biting my nails)

I know it's a great experience for most, but it still makes me anxious!

Congrats on stepping up and thanks for your service!

Always carry at least 1/3 load of fresh water. That means you have your own bathroom where ever you go. McDs restroom is nasty? Who cares?

Otherwise, you're probably used to things but feel free to ask!

Thanks for all the replies. Are there any other things to consider when traveling cross country? With it being new I'm not overly concerned with wheel bearings and the like.

There have been some problems with axel seals leaking on to the brakes of some trailers.

I would pull or have pulled each hub and have/repack the bearing with a known amount and type of grease.

And make double sure the seals are not leaking for a long trip such as you have planned
