Not Charging

I am the proud owner of a new 2017 Roo 23ws. Taking the unit out tomorrow for the first time since we used it coming home from Indiana. I can't seem to get the batteries to charge. I have plugged the unit into the house several times and left it for two or three days, and still the batteries (2 -6 volt) don't seem to charge. Lights are dim and slide won't go out. When it is plugged in everything works. Suggestions?

Is your battery cutoff switch in the wrong position or another possibility is do you have the batteries wired up correctly?

it does sound like the battery cutoff switch, it should be on the tongue under the propane tanks.

btw, our saleperson did not know that ours came with one. i told her the brochure said they were standard. took her two days but she eventually found it.

Batteries Not Charging

Batteries hooked up by a very competent dealer. Worked great until they began to run low. I looked for a cutoff switch on the tongue but I will look again. Thanks for your quick response/suggestion.

Bound for Monticello in VA.

Hum thinking about it more, if the cutoff switch was off, you would get no power at all to the trailer and you say the lights are dim.
If you have power when plugged into shore power that means the converter is working.

Can you charge the battery using a batter charger independent from the camper?

Check the breakers underneath the camper. I had no charging on a trip and it turned out the breaker was tripped under the trailer and the so the convertor was not getting the power to the battery. Also check the convertor breaker, can you hear it running(fan or hum?). Can you get a voltage meter and see if you are getting 12v to the battery from the convertor.

Check two 40A fuses in converter. They are usually orange in color. They will blow if the battery is very low and the unit is connected to shore power or if the battery is connected reversed. Do any of the 12V things work Also check to insure that the breakaway cable has not pulled out the pin.

He has power because he has dim lights, But I wonder if they blew the fuses hooking up the new batteries..

could be the resettable circuit breaker tucked into the A-frame.
push the tiny black button to reset it.

Charging Problems Continue

I am at work now so can not go check the camper. Not sure where the converter is; maybe under the refrigerator?
I know the fuse box is there and I hear something quietly running in that location. Can't be the refrig., it is turned off.

Converter is part of the fuse box. It is mounted on the bottom inside the fuse box enclosure.

First, take a volt meter and measure the voltage coming off your battery with no load and with no shore power. Then test with shore power. If the internal converter/charger is working, you should see an increase in voltage (> 13 V). If the charger is working, your battery bank may be the issue and cannot accept a charge. Maybe shorted cell, low volume, overdischarged, etc) If you dont see an increase in voltage when hooked to shore power, there may be an issue with your charger or the shore power getting to it. Have you tried to charge with standalone charger? The ones that come with the camper are not the best quality.

Make sure they're wired in series. If they're wired in parallel, you'll only get 6v....ever.

Batteries Not Charging; con't.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I located the fuse on the tongue of the trailer, it is fine. I checked the fuses and the breaker switches and they are fine. I plan to call Forest River tomorrow since the unit is still under warranty. Other than this the Roo 23WS continues to be great. Just spent three nights down near Charlottesville, VA. Visited Monticello, the D-Day Memorial, and Washington and Lee University to see the gravesite of Robert E. Lee. Wife and I had a wonderful trip. Will try to post pics later.

You never confirmed if you found a battery cutoff switch. Probably under your LP tanks in front of the battery.

Also, two 6 volt batteries is not the norm on these TT's. Whoever installed them (your dealer?) may have screwed up the wiring.

Batteries Not Charging, con't

Looked and looked under the tongue and can't find a "cut-off" switch.
Batteries were special deal installed by Wana RV in Indiana. I believe they have them in correctly, but I will see if I can get a picture.
Thanks again.

It should be on a cross brace under the propane tanks. Also there are two fuses directly behind the front fascia on the streetside of the A frame tube, zip tied to the wiring harness underneath.Click image for larger version

Were the lights ever bright on battery?
From what you have said it can't be a fuse or switch.
It has to be the converter, battery or a poor connection. You really need a voltmeter to check this.
The + terminal on one battery needs to connect to the - terminal on the other battery, no other wires on these terminals, all other connections on the other terminals

Thanks Mr. Havencamp for the picture. I knew about that switch. I use it regularly to keep the trailer from draining the battery while in storage. I thought perhaps there was another switch people were talking about. Lights and slides and everything worked great until the battery went dead.
