Since you're carrying a generator in the truck bed, fire it up and plug in the TT with the A/C running. I put the Chihuahua Pack in a big crate and they generally sleep until we either stop for a break or get to the destination. Never a problem. If I couldn't run the A/C while traveling, I would squeeze the 5 of them into the truck cab with me & the family. Biggest problem with being in the cab is that they want to drive the rig! Swampy

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I arrived in Florida yesterday from Texas. DW, the dog and I left at 130 am to avoid the 4th of July traffic.

Before leaving, I set up my 4kw propane generator in the bed and connected the TT to the 30 amp outlet.

We started the generator and RV ac at dawn in Mississippi. My wife wanted to ride in the TT with the dog to get some sleep. Traffic was very light so I said ok.

She said that the ride was comparable to the truck, but somewhat noisy due to the mini-blinds making noise. I installed shock absorbers on my TT. When we arrived around noon, she was sound asleep with the dog.

No flame retardant suit needed.

Not to hijack, but now that you've mentioned it, do you think the shocks helped the ride a lot? I've often wondered if it was worth it.

Seems years ago I read or heard that it was legal for folks to ride in a towed trailer provided there was some sort of communication between the towing vehicle and the trailer. It might one of those things that each state is different.
just me and Jake or sometimes Fred his buddy so in the truck with me is the way we go.

My dogs are my family as well. I would rather them ride in an air conditioned trailer in their kennels as opposed to the bed of my truck. I'm in the same boat as the OP and will either let them sit in the back seat of the truck somehow on short trips, or fire up the generator and let them ride in the trailer. They will not be riding in the bed of the truck with the hot weather we have here if I had a TT instead of 5er. I don't see this any differen than your dogs being in a Class A or C motorhome going down the road. Honestly, I think the kids would rather ride in the 5er watching TV and lounging on the couch than in the back seat of the truck. Some states allow that with stipulations. Hell setup a WIFI webcam or "backup cam" and you can even watch your dogs!

The laws are for PEOPLE in the trailer, has nothing to do with dogs. Otherwise you could never put a horse or any other livestock in a trailer.

Pets in RV

Our friends put Barney The Cat in the shower inside his pet carrier. When they stopped, Barney was insane.

Hybrids don't have shocks so it's not a comfortable place to ride.
X2. Why anyone would contemplate subjecting their pet this this is beyond me. If you want to get a good idea of what it would feel like, go to an amusement park and spend one continuous hour on the roller coaster. See how well YOU feel when it stops.

I can't comment on the legality of letting pets ride in the trailer, but I can say if the temperature was comfortable and our little rascal (chorkie) had a window seat with a view she would be quite happy and enjoy the ride.
I think it varies largely between animals, some may very well freak out where others don't.
In a nutshell: don't risk it.

Is there any information available on Barney's sanity BEFORE the trip?

dogs or people riding in a 5th wheel or trailer

When I had a trailer, I install a cover over the bed of the F150 that also had a boot that connected it to the slide window of the cab. I was able to air condition both the truck and covered bed just by aiming the center AC vents to the boot. Worked great and you could also hear what was going on in the bed.

Thanks for all the comments. It would appear consensus is that the dogs should not ride in the TT. We'll have to tough it out with them in the rear seats with the kids. Oh well, st least I'll be comfortable!! LOL. Cheers everyone!!

In 13 years on various Hybrid forums, I've never seen anyone add shocks to a hybrid TT.
Not saying you can't, just never seen it.

For that matter, I've never them added to any trailer with Torflex axles.

When I went in for brain surgery my wife asked the surgeon if I would be able to play piano on recovery. The answer was "yes". Wife said, "that's great 'cause he can't now". You never know with cats, either.
