Opinions on dogs in TT while towing

Hi all. So I have an F-150 super crew cab, but I have 2 sons and my wife with me, as well as 2 dogs who are medium to large in size (the dogs that is). After loading the kids and the dogs into the rear seating area, i quickly realized it was a real tight fit and would be somewhat uncomfortable for all of them back there, especially for a trip of any real length.

My question is, does anyone put their dog(s) in ther TT while travelling to and from locations? I figured that with a few air vents and windows open it would stay fairly cool in the TT no?

Looking forward to tour thoughts and opinions.

Jake rides in the truck with me, but I have several friends that put their dogs on tethers in the P/U bed or in travel crates in the bed, I don't know anyone that puts them in the trailer. With that said in the trailer may be better then in the truck bed never really thought about it.

I personally would not do it. You may want to read this thread on the same topic. You could consider a truck cap on your truck and putting the dogs in the bed with a cap with open windows in it. This will keep the sun off them but a good safe airflow.

NEVER!
I challenge you to ride in your hybrid while someone tows it a short distance.

My wife rode in it for about 1/4 mile. When I stopped, she came flying out and said neither she or our golden would ever ride it it while moving.

Hybrids don't have shocks so it's not a comfortable place to ride.

Check the state laws of where you are traveling before allowing pets or people in the TT while in tow. It is illegal in some states.
A covered crate in the bed of the truck is how my sister brought her Wimeriner along.

There is simply no room in my truck for the dogs. The cab is full of people and the bed is full of things like a generator, fuel cans, propane tanks etc. Back in the trailer they have beds, toys, food, water and are kept nice and cool courtesy of an ice powered 12V air conditioner. I do stop to check on them every couple of hours to let them out and refill the ice in the AC and they are usually asleep in their beds.

TT = Rough ride.

Truck bed = sun / heat / cold / rain / noise.

Truck bed with topper, plenty of water, soft bed, and maybe also a plug in fan in warmer climates !

Not in the TT.
We alternate between back seat of the TV, and a secured crate in the pickup bed.
That is our opinion / comfort / safety level.
Back when we had the TC, we wouldn't even ride with them back there.

On Edit - thinking about, look how horse people have to do it.

Bottom line, they are your dogs, do what you feel comfortable with them.

Horse trailers are loaded on a slant to maximize the number of animals it will carry.

Assuming the trailer remains attached to the TV and upright during the trip, the dogs will be fine in there.

Check the legality first.

Hopefully not.

My dogs are my (fur) children. I would never let them ride in our TT. I'd give up camping first.

It sounds as if there are no REALLY GOOD solutions to your situation.

Whatever you choose to do I wish you good luck!

The first thought that came to my mind, aside from the rough ride, is the temperature inside the trailer. When traveling, particularly on a sunny day, the inside temp in my unit is enough I don't want to be in there for 10 minutes, let alone (in some cases) several hours...

Generally it sounds like fellow rv'er do not recommend pets riding in TT. Hate to say it. but if there is no comfortable room for people and pets any be you should consider kenneling while on holidays. I know they are members of the family, but trying to find safest answer to problem.

IMHO, if you don't have room in the truck bed to crate your dogs, move the "stuff" into your TT and let the dogs have the bed of the TV. Load your trailer so weight is evenly distributed (dogs moving about are not evenly distributed). Cover crates to keep the sun and weather off of your loved ones. Your "stuff" will not care how hot or cold the trailer is during travel. Your dogs will.
