Question for Roo with slide-out owners

Looking at a few Roos (19, 21dk, 233s and 231kss) models and I'm curious how much space is there when the trailer is closed (slide-outs in) and ready for travel. I've only seen them when they're opened up and trying to get an idea of how much space we'd have to load stuff in the trailer itself and not the storage compartments. Stuff like ice chests, bikes etc. Are they pretty roomy when they're in travel mode (for lack of a better term). Thanks.

ID:	52443We have an '04 Shamrock 232 with a 6 ft slide. As you can see, there is a good bit of space with the slide in. We stow chairs behind the couch and there is also room under the dinette.

we have an older 2007 23SS(which were 7'6" wide, not the current 8' wide)and we have room to access the fridge and toilet and back of the trailer, when the slideout is in.
is it tight? yes but doable.

We have a 23ikss. With both slides in there is no room. You have to deploy tge kitchen slide to get to fridge or bathroom. Only takes 15 seconds though.
Still has some room in front and rear for coolers,chairs,totes,ect..

We have a 2009 23SS (8 feet wide). With the 16' kitchen/sofa slide in there is about 12" between the dinette and the kitchen so plenty of room to get to the fridge and bathroom. We put our Weber BBQ in a space in front of the rear bed and an extra large cooler in front of the front bed. It's a bit tight to put bikes in on the floor but you probably could put 2 in the front and 2 in the back. We put ours in the truck bed.

We have a 23ss. A fair amount of room when traveling. I added bike holders for the dinette similar to this picture. We currently travel with 2 bikes, but you may could fit three Click image for larger version

The 233 s has lots of room when closed. I did the same mood as above, with four bikes on the dinette, and I can still load two now kids bikes between the dinette and sofa on the floor. The slide in doesn't impede access to the back of the camper, so there's easy access to fridge, pantry, bathroom, etc. I put in lots of folding chairs, a 5 gallon water cooler, a bike trailer, honey wagon, and more, in addition to a bike.

When looking at any unit with a slide you can always ask the salesperson to show you how the slide out operates and that way you will get a first hand look at the space you would have. The slide should work on 12 volts so it shouldn't be a problem. That way you will also see if there is any problems with the slide system

As said above the 233S has tons of room. Once it is closed we can easily access everything inside. We store items all around the dinette once it is closed in. The only thing you can't access is the left hand of the ledge above the front bunk and it is difficult to get to the storage under the front bunk. Besides that no issues at all.

I have a 2011 21SS and I fit a bike my wife bought while camping. It fit in without much of a struggle. Also and cooler and stand alone awing in there with it.

Thanks everyone. We'll be looking this weekend and I'll be sure to ask them to close the slide to take a look at it. I think we've narrowed it down to the 233s & the 23ikss. Excited.

since these are both very different floorplans, do you mind telling us why these two?
most that want 3-bed hybrids, are choosing between different brands of 3-bed hybrids.
and they choose this type of hybrid because they have big families and need the extra sleeping space.

if you don't have big family, IMHO don't buy a 3-bed hybrid because it's another big hole in the trailer to have to worry about and maintain.
two of them are enough to keep maintained, let alone 3 of them.

Good point bikendan. We don't have a big immediate family, but the 3rd bed opens up options for the nieces and nephews if they decide to come along. A few are older and would most likely rather stay in a tent than in the TT anyways. Being new to TTs in general, maybe less is better as far as maintenance and worry. You may have just persuaded me lol

the larger two canvas end hybrids still have the sofa and dinette as extra sleeping places, without needing the 3rd canvas end, especially if you only occasionally need the extra sleeping spots.

The 233s has that plus the extra bed. The other bonus with the 233s is that if you don't need all the beds open you don't open them all. We do that when only 1 of the 2 girls come with us.

Every flooplan has it's pros and cons. It all depends on how you plan on using it, what you like and works for you.

I recommend going to see them with the "regular camping crew" and have everyone in there at once. Try both for 15-20 minutes and see how it feels to you and then go from there.

Enjoy the shopping!!!

The 23ss has more storage capacity and kitchen counter space than that of the 233s....and then the ikss has more of both over the 23ss.

If the camping group is small I'd maximize your counter/storage - at least that's what we decided to do and went with the 23ss. I wasn't crazy about the slide under the awning side of the ikss initially when we purchased in Feb '13.

I'll blame dan as he told me the exact same thing - don't worry about another hole in the side of the trailer if isn't a necessity.

yes, the 233S has amazing sleeping space but it comes at a cost.
no kitchen counterspace and very little storage space.

for the two of us, we've never been able to fill the inside storage of our 23SS. and we take a lot of stuff.
and the DW loves having the extra counterspace in the kitchen.
