reattaching metal front edge of glass cooktop cover

Hi,

The black metal front edge of the stove glass cooktop cover has become loose. I took it off. It was attached with some kind of soft rubbery black/gray sticky tape like material. I cleaned it all off from the glass and the metal edge piece. Now I need to find a new piece of that double sided tape or whatever it is. Does anyone know what it is? Who makes it? Etc.

Thank you!

Contact the stove manufacturer.

That was my thought too! ha. I called Suburban. First, they went to talk to the techs. They then told me that they had NO IDEA! Maybe I could go "online and figure it out". What? I said I had already done that, "you are the manufacturer"! She put me on hold. 15 mins later, I was talking to a much more knowledgable person who told me that the edge piece is a piece they buy from someone else and it comes with the adhesive so they don't know what it is! But they guy told me that when the same thing happened to HIM he used 3M double sided tape! Well, ok. I asked about heat resistance and fumes? He said, yeah, you should probably worry about that! I called 3M and they transferred me to their Industrial adhesive division help line. They recommended either their 4611 or 4655 ultra high heat resistant UL rated double sided tape products. The only difference between the two is thickness. Amazon has the 4611 version so I went with that! The only solution Suburban could officially give me was to order the entire metal front part which comes with the tape attached, which I understand given they just stick them on. I should have this fixed by tomorrow.

The gyrations we have to go through as RV owners sometimes. Good on you to have the patience to figure it out. Thanks for posting the fix, as you're surely not the only person this is likely to affect.

Ours came loose also. It was under warranty so National Indoor fixed it for us. No problems since.

I used a 2 part epoxy after cleaning off the tape, After a year it is still holding up together better than the tape did.

There was also some silicone adhesive type caulk that was put on our high efficiency hot water heater exhaust vent, so a plumbing supply place might have something as well. I think JB Weld also makes a clear epoxy that is pretty heat tolerant as well and you should be able to get that at your local hardware.

I would try some of this really tough two sided tape from 3M...

if you look at the amazon site it is available at various widths and lengths...

No brand of two sided tape will hold it as well as some Lexel caulk.

It is absolutely clear and the stickiest best holding stuff I have Ever found.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Lexel-10-5-...-Caulk/4714985

Im attaching a small piece of granite tile to the top tiny (so small as to be useless) shelf in our corner shower today andIm using this stuff to hold it in place.

I've used it on my s&b siding which keeps lifting in high winds, it holds thru everything. The company says, it's actually a form of liquid rubber.

The manufacturer replaced my entire glass top by contacting myself but going through a local authorized dealer/repair center (not a Rockwood dealer, but a Suburban authorized dealership).

This looks like some very good caulking, BUT I'm not sure you should use it near a stove! Here is the warning label from it. It should not be used near HEAT, FLAMES, SPARKS. The FUMES are harmful, etc. That would worry me using it this close to the open flames of the stove. BUT I will be buying some of this for other uses.

My son in law tried it on the DeLorean, and found it won't hold certain metals.

The fumes released while working with the product and during the cure time are probably flammable. But I would bet that after the cure period all of these flammable solvents will be gone.

It's a toluene base and the vapors are flammable (it's a solvent). I suspect once it cures, it's fine. A lot of stuff is like that, flammable in liquid or gel form, but safe once cured and hardened.

You could always just use JB Weld. It's available at HD, Lowes, Walmart, and most auto parts stores for $5 or so. They make a high heat version, but for that front piece I would think the regular JB Weld would be fine. Just let it cure 24 hours before using the stove.
