RV Antifreeze

I have the 23IKSS and I am wondering if 2 gallons is enough antifreeze.

Yes! Don't pour A/F into your F/W tank, just pump it from the suction side of your pump! Youroo!!

I always get 3....just in case. Easy to forget to shut a low point drain and pump a 1/2 gal or so on to the ground. It's cheap and what I don't use...goes back in garage for next year.

If you use compressed air to blow out the lines you will not need as much. Just pump some thru the pump, do the traps and u r good.

For my 23IKSS, 2 gal is just barely enough. I'd get an extra for a backup

A very good point. Better get 3 gallons if you don't blow the lines 1st.

I say 3, don't forget to pour some down the drains and to do the outside shower. I had 2 and 1/2 gallons but I never used the shower so it still had antifreeze from last year.

Yep, lots of folks forget to allow antifreeze to run out of the outside shower.

This is the way I intend to do it as well....

Hook up air compressor to city water connection, set compressor output to 30 pounds.... Open up all spigots one by one, run until all you get is air... Same for toilet and outdoor shower.

Remove the water filter bowl in the trailer and empty any water out of it, remove caps from the drain hoses and empty any water out of them, remove the anode from the hot water heater.

Pour antifreeze down all drains...

Only thing I haven't figured out is how to address the fresh water tank pump... Should I just run the pump while I have the air going, or should I try and get some anti freeze in it and if so how best to do that??

Do this second. Hook up air compressor to city water connection, set compressor output to 30 pounds.... Open up all spigots one by one, run until all you get is air... Same for toilet and outdoor shower.

Do this first. Remove the water filter bowl in the trailer and empty any water out of it, remove caps from the drain hoses and empty any water out of them, remove the anode from the hot water heater.

Pour antifreeze down all drains...

Hook short hose to anti freeze inlet to anti freeze jug. Turn bypass valve by pump to suck anti freeze thru pump and into filter canister.Only thing I haven't figured out is how to address the fresh water tank pump... Should I just run the pump while I have the air going, or should I try and get some anti freeze in it and if so how best to do that??

I have an R-Pod 178.

Does it have a water filter bowl?

I assume that some sort of special attachment is needed or connect an air compressor to the city water connection?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about your Rpod.. Open the cabinets in the trailer nearest your city water connections and see if you see one... Just follow the water supply lines.

Other thing you need to remember when using and air compressor is to adjust the pressure to 30 pounds or so.. Any more and you could damage your lines or the connections.

You probably would get quicker answers, if you posted your question in the RPod sub-forum, instead of the Roo/Shamrock sub-forum.

I've tried just blowing out the lines really well with air and the toilet valve still had enough moisture in it, it froze and cracked. It only takes a small amount there, one year the water pump housing cracked as well. That was on my old camper, now with all the nice bypasses and the antifreeze pickup tube I think running antifreeze through everything is the way to go.
