Sanitizing/Draining FW tank

I am fixin' to do this. I do not see where to drain the tank? Is it as easy as filling it and running the sink until the water stops? OR is there a drain valve?

I have a 2008 Roo 17 ft.

There should be a tank drain, do you have ant tubes under the trailer that have caps on them?

Tube may be white or blue.

Those tubes do stick out under the camper, but they are open. there are no caps on them. I'll try to get a pic.

With no caps there will be a valve to open someplace inside the trailer.

Perhaps under a seat or in a storage area.

Is this what I am looking for? Neither position allows water to come out the drain tube. Is there something else?

Looks to me like its a pull up/down type of valve. Give that a try instead of twisting it. And it looks like its connected to the FW tank, so thats the correct valve to be looking at.

Parr8hed,
I asked my fellow FRF members about the attached pic a few months back. I was told that the pit-cock located under the bedroom slide was the FW tank drain and the blue/red capped tubes were for draining water in the system. Hope that's correct.

Yep, pulling up and pushing down. Nothing drains out. I may have to investigate further in the am.

Parr8hed, my 2007 Roo 23SS has the valve like your pic shows.
Your pic is of the FW tank drain.
The low point drains for H & C water lines have the same valve to drain.
Mine are under the sofa.

Not sure where they are in the 17.

OK. The plot thickens. After pulling and pushing (and turning) the valve in my pic, nothing happens.

I got a clothes hanger, straightened it out and fished up inside the blue tube hanging out of the bottom of the camper. It went up about 3" and met an obstruction. I took out the false back in the bottom cabinet under the sink and there was another valve, just like the one in my previous picture. When I opened it a few drops drained out of the blue tube. I would say maybe 1/4 cup of water came out. Tank is still 1/3 full. Nothing happening. Is there another valve that anybody knows about?

I am off to use the google machine to see what I can find.

Ok, ok, ok. figured it out. Have to have tank valve open. Done. Have to open drain under sink. Done. But you also have to have the water pump on. Once I hit the water pump switch water started draining like crazy.

Well now the plot thickens more. Drained and flushed the tank. I have the little access panel out. When I closed the valve for the exterior drain and turned on the water pump water came shooting out through the hole in the floor where the screw was that held the little access panel in place.

So what are the odds that it came from the factory this way? I see no other holes in the floor meaning this access panel has not been relocated by the previous owner. I wonder if he ever had it out to drain the tank? I wonder if it has ever been sanitized? I wonder what are the odds of me putting the panel back in place and avoiding a leak?

I am probably going to have to remove a small piece of flooring down under the sink to repair the line.

Congratulations on your diagnostic work and condolences on your screw hole leak. Your earlier post about needing the water pump ON for fw tank to drain tells me something else is wrong. I suspect a vent line problem also. All I have to do to drain my fw tank is to remove a drain line cap. Our trailers are different but I'd say something's not venting right if the pump is required.

So I am a bit confused by all of this. In my 2016 23IKSS I thought there was only a single drain for the FW tank - the white spigot under the trailer. I didn't see any other hoses under there. Did I miss something?

The white spigot you found is the fresh water tank drain. There should also be a red and blue Pex line with a plug or valve on them. These drain the hot and cold water lines after the water pump, You may have to open both a hot and cold faucet to get the red and blue drains to drain fully, Don't forget to drain the HW tank. Either by removing drain plug (Atwood) or anode rod ( Suburban).

I have a Suburban. Does anyone know what size wrench/socket I would need to turn/remove the anode/cap?

I'll look for the blue/red lines. So do I need to drain these after every trip along with the FW tank?

Anode/ drain for wh is 1 1/16"
I don't drain the hot and cold lines between trips, only the water heater and fresh water tank. I ran a piece of pvc pipe and a ball valve out to the edge of the underside of tt so it's easier to drain the fw tank after a trip.

Low point drains are generally for winterizing.
I don't why you would need to drain them for any other reason.
