Shower Drain

I have a really stupid question, regarding how to get the drain the shower floor to open. The drain is fully closed and it has a small knob on it but I haven't been able to pop it up/open. The sink has the same style and it just pops open when I pull up on the knob, What am I missing in the shower unit?

Is it like a house shower-tub drain have you tried pushing it in?

If it's exactly the same....try using a pair of pliers and GENTLY tugging\twisting to free it.

It spins in freely in the drain but I have yet to be able to pull it up. I thought maybe it was threaded but turning it has no effect on it. Haven't tried the pliers and screw driver to pry it up, was hoping to find the magic trick that will pop it up before I break the knob off and its stuck in the drain.
