Solar prewired in my Shamrock 2015 23IKSS

My TT is prewired for solar with a Zamp plug. My question is, do I need to purchase a solar package that includes the charge controller or is that included in the prewire? Also, are all cables universal or do I need to purchase Zamp panels? I'm looking at investing in a suitcase-style panel system. Thanks!

The "prewired" system is simply two wires running directly to the batteries. Nothing else.

If you're considering solar, you need to buy a controller (DON'T get the cheapo models from Amazon... buy a GOOD one).

From there you just need panels.

PM me if you need anything, I've installed a few systems.

Most feel the pre wired systems are nothing but a marketing scam. As stated it is nothing more then a trickle charger for your existing batteries.

It's not even a trickle charger... it's literally nothing but wires connected to your battery.

You need to provide all the electronics and other things in order to utilize it. You can push 20 amps worth of current through it if you have enough solar though.

Thanks. I’ll check Zamp’s website. I know nothing about charge controllers. What brands are recommended?

It depends on your desired setup, but Victron is a solid brand.

Before you buy anything, you need to understand what your 12V demands are. If you do not do research first you will most likely be disappointed as you will need to replace several of the items. I would start with either a theoretical analysis of your demand or purchase a good meter and measure the demand. Once you understand your requirements, you can configure your system.

For all your Solar needs call Solar Penny Solar Store 480-832-0585, they will walk you through the process, help you determine what you need based on your needs, and the have the best prices and service period. I get nothing for this plug except the knowledge I sent you to a great small business that is reputable and knowledgeable.

Don't use your "prewired" solar wiring.. too small of wire.. Iam using Amazon's:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JML23X0...v_ov_lig_dp_it

And It works great.. ! Make it "portable" so you can follow the sun..

Zamps suitcase comes with a controller. I know this because we have the 125. If you go with their system, all you do is plug it in. I would advise getting an extender wire with it so you can move the panels in more locations for max sun. Some people feel that Zamp is overpriced. If you go with another system you will need an adapter and possibly a controller. We love our Zamp.

I agree with lablover. We have a portable Zamp 120w suitcase panel and it works great. I also agree that you should get the cable extension. If you decide to go with a different brand solar panel other than Zamp you will need to reverse the plug because Zamp plugins are reverse polarity from most other brands. Zamp panels and cables are well made in my opinion. I've installed solar on 3 RV's so far. Their controllers are adaptable for lead acid, AGM or Gel. Hope this helps. Good luck
