Stinky slinky fence post mod on 2017 models

Curious if anyone has done this on the newer models. I was planning replicating the bolt on method using washers and the existing flanges of the cross support. My underside has L brackets running widthwise with slots cut into them. Appears I can get a 1/4" bolt through the slots. I'm curious if a 1/4" bolt will be enough support to hold the fence post securely and am wondering if anyone has gone this route yet?

Thanks!

I added 3 fence posts for storage on my '17 23WS about a month ago. Not using it for the sewer hose, but for wood blocks and other miscellaneous items.

I mounted them to the underside using long bolts that extend down from the from frame and aluminum bar as the bottom plate to "clamp" them to the underside of the frame securely. It was simple and worked great. I know my description doesn't convey it well. I don't have any pictures at the moment. I'll have to post some to better demonstrate the method I used.

I took some s/s strap and bent the U shape in a Vise and drilled holes in frame then put straps which are slightly shorter to fit the tube tight. On the other end I put spacers to allow for drainage. Drilled a few holes in fence post to let water to drain. used their fence post caps for ends riveted one side on the other I used brass hinges and snap clamps for the other ends.

Very slick looking! I just installed fence posts under mine this last weekend, but I like your approach much more than mine.

I took some 1/4 stainless threaded rod and slipped 3/8 od poly tube over it. Bent to in a U to go around 2 5 in. Posts with a treated pc. of 1 x 6 cut to about 5 in . in between. Marked and drilled the frame flange with 1/4", stainless flats and double nuts. Very easy install....till tree took 5er.

Here is the L brackets I have underneath. They run widthwise. You can see the slots that were cut into it and the depth by my fingerClick image for larger version

Those "L brackets" look EXACTLY like the angle iron that supports the fresh water tank. Lots of folks have had problems with that angle iron bending due to travelling with water in their FW tank and/or overfilling their FW tank. I don't see a FW tank on your angle iron, so I'm not sure why it's even there (unless you've already lost the FW tank ), but be aware that hanging any significant weight on it could cause it to bend. If it's just the fence post and a stinky slinky, you're probably OK.

See first pic in post #15 in the thread below. You can see it likes to bend right at those slots right above your fingers in your pic.

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...-120272-2.html

There are a number of threads detailing the ways folks have beefed up their FW tank supports.

same width at FW braces but different 'slots' cut into them. My pic is behind the FW tank and read slide rail, between the tires and steps.

After loosing the first sewer hose storage unit (due to being hit by a "road alligator",(the plastic ears on the tube where it bolted on to the horizontal angles, just snapped off). I replaced it and reinforced it with two large hose clamps around the tube nd the horizontal braces that go across the RV.

I found that with the enclosed under belly could not get a clean straight shot across so I copped out and bought the $52.00 Valtera EZ poop tube 64 inch. The out Board Z braces have a nice inform surface from the frame rail out. They are 29 inches apart so I ordered an extra end $10 Am zone prime and will cut to span 3 Z outriggers. In old stock the local dealer had a discolored old midpoint hanger so it will screw to 3 outriggers with two self tappers each. Will post when I'm done.

Nice install ONeTon, may copy your hinges on end cap, currently using a eye screw on ether side near end and a very strong short bunge cord to hold end caps on. Side note, FR ran the gas line on the underside of frame rails. Had to use a spacer to get around this and to get a tight fit. Works okay, just had to do extra work and lower fence post about 3/4 inch to complete install. Thanks for sharing the great looking mod!
