Storing water filter

Just finishing up the winterizing process and after removing the water filter I got to thinking I forgot how the tech told us to store the filter (if he told us). Don't want it growing mold or mildew while its out of its canister this winter so how yall do it?

Toss it and start next season with a new filter insert.

Well I hate to toss it cause we just bought it at the end of May and camped maybe 25 nights so it ought not be nowhere close to the end of its cycle should it?

It's not so much how many nights you camped...it's the fact that it's been wet and had filtered material in it since May...now if you hang on to it with the thought of using it again in spring...it's almost a year old! If you aren't careful with water filters, it's counter productive....The knock against those filters is their price...but if you research it, you can get better pricing on them. A whole winter of filtered material is asking for unhealthy water conditions in my books.
I start every new season with a new filter, as well as sanitizing the water system, not something to be cheap about.

Bill,
If I had a filter that was fairly new when I winterized, I would put the filter in the freezer until I was ready to use it again. Seemed to work pretty well for me. But the filter that I use costs about $15 each.

Yea that makes sense. Better safe than sorry. It's a waterpur kw1 cartridge so I'll research around the net and maybe even give Santy Claus a camper's wish list😄

With emphasis on the "fairly new when I winterized"..... but that's not your case n4uaj...yours has a whole season of use on it.
The other thing to keep in mind is that those filters have "stuff" in them all summer long just from being used and sitting in a blistering hot trailer the times you are not using it, there is potential for bacterial growth, so don't be cheap when it comes to replacing filters, otherwise you may as well just go straight to the tap and forget filtering altogether. Thats why I pulled our filter out and went with an external(outside) filter. When we aren't using the trailer the filter goes in the fridge.
