I agree. I have a Chrysler Aspen and towed my old 233s with out any issues. It actually was a great combo. My wdh was and old school husky with friction sway control.

Im in the camp of "just get a truck." I tried upgrading from a Midsize SUV to a large to get to 9000# tow capacity. Still found i ran out of payload quickly, and there wasnt anywhere to put the "wet stuff," like bikes and muddy outdoor rugs. Went with a new Tundra CrewCab... solved all towing issues, wet stuff issues, and the second row had the most room I've ever seen in any truck, car, or SUV.

As noted earlier, in 2013 we opted to get a newer (2 year-old) 2011 Ram 2500 CC w/balance of Ram's 5 Year / 100K mile powertrain warranty for $14,000 instead of a (then 6-7 year-old) 2006-2007 era full-size SUV which were still in the $20K range & out-of-warranty, etc...

To add to my experiences... At 96K miles my Ram's Hemi self-destructed on the way home from work. Ram replaced it, no hassles, even though I was the 2nd owner w/minimal records from the previous owner on file online, etc... Now I have a new engine on a truck that has no rust & is PAID OFF. Had this happened on a PRICIER older/higher miles SUV, I would be out the cost of engine replacement ($4000+) plus likely still making payments on the extra $6000 the SUV cost vs. my Ram...

So now my Ram is 6 years old & still has the balance of the replacement engine's additional 3 year warranty. Since I have a TV with a fiberglass cap I have been using it all-year to haul stuff. I get cheaper bulk mulch, topsoil, etc. & free firewood from friends, etc. We also throw the kids' muddy baseball gear, bikes, kayaks, fishing gear, etc. in the back and use it to haul R/C airplanes to the flying field.

Our Ram seats 6, so it's perfect for our family of 5 even if the kids bring a friend along. Most full-size SUVs don't have enough payload for 7-8 people plus the hitch weight of even a hybrid. IMO if folks have 7-8 plus a TT they need a 1 ton van like the Nissan NV (kinda ugly) or equivalent Ford/Chevy...

what ever a expy is I don't know but if its built on a f 150 chassis then its the same as a pickup so have her test drive one and see

Expy is short for Expedition.
Burb is short for Suburban.

Actually these are long used nicknames for both vehicles.
Same for my Chevy Avalanche, which is commonly referred to as an Avy by their owners.

We put 5200 miles on our Roo 233s and Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel last summer, including crossing the Rockies and bighorn mountains (10k summit). No problems except on 8% uphill grades in 100 degree weather, when we had to drop to 50mph uphill. Great tow combo for sure

Very cool combo, wish we didn't need the third row. Did you have any heat issues towing in the summer? Coolant or tranny?

Just for my knowledge, is the Ford Econoline e350/Transit 350 and Chevrolet Express 3500 considered 1 ton?

These small diesels pull very well. Mine never over heats in mountains. I do slow down and drop a gear.

Can't speak for the other two but my VW Touareg TDI did manage 11.5L /100km once towing a 6000# trailer spinning at a lazy 1500rpm. It wasn't even trying.
Normally it gets about 14L/100km towing. But I'm not too concerned about fuel economy..more so if the TV can pull the weight up a hill/mountain. The Touareg does it with ease. It's a tank.

Yes, they are 1 ton vehicles. We tow our 233S with a Chevy Express 3500, and it's a great towing combo. We did a 4000 mile trip last summer with 9 people and a dog, and had no problems.

I tow our 233s with a GMC Yukon Denali XL.

It has the 6.2L V8 and handles the camper great, but i do use weight distribution.

I don't agree with this. 98% of the time, we are using the car as a people, dog, and grocery hauler. We use all of the interior space.

Trucks aren't for everybody, and the full size SUVs are more than up to the task.
