TST 507 TPMS Options

I am looking to purchase a TST 507 TPMS, and am wondering what caps people are using. There are the Flow-Thru sensors or the Cap sensors. I am wondering specifically what most people are using, and if there are any drawbacks to either of them. Other than the obvious that the caps need to be removed to fill with air.

Which are you using, and is there a reason you selected one type vs the other?

The "flow through" sensors HAVE to be mounted on metal valve stems or you risk damage to the rubber stem due to centrifugal force.

The 'flow through" sensors use a CR 1632 battery with ~ 130 Mah capacity.

The Valve Stem Cap Sensors (which I use) have a CR 2032 battery with a 225-240 Mah capacity (depending on mfr).

I've had zero issues with the cap sensors on rubber stems although at last tire chance I had short (Enkei style) metal stems installed. I go about two seasons on batteries and the CR2032 battery is far more common. I see them on just about every battery Kiosk in grocery, Drug, and Auto Parts stores.

Yes, the cap sensor has to be removed to add air but I haven't found that an issue. If desired the anti-theft caps (which just spin and you have to use a special wrench to remove sensor with them installed) can be removed and they are then easy enough to remove just like a regular valve cap.

Cap sensors due to non-metal valve stems. Haven't had any major problem adding air using supplied tool to remove cap.

Thanks for the info. It is the same price for both types of caps, so I wanted to know why one would use one over the other.

Looks like I will prob go with the caps. That seems like the consensus on this very small sample set anyway. Thanks all for your feedback.

I ran flow throughs on rubber stems with no problems on my factory tires. But out of an abundance of caution, I had metal stems installed when I replaced them with Goodyears.

I have the cap sensors. I remove them off the RV when not towing. I've heard it will more than double battery life. Not sure if it does, but makes sense, as they are not transmitting?

I run the cap sensors on the front tires and flow through on the rear. I like the low profile look of the cap sensors, but like the convenience of the flow thru for adjusting pressure.

I would only run either on metal stems.

I have not yet bought my TST TPMS, but just replaced my tires and changed the valve stems to metal ones so I could have the option of either one in the very near future.

I haven’t seen either of the sensors in person, but looking at pictures of the flow through sensors, they appear to be quite long. It looks like they would almost double the length of the stem.

Removing the sensors to add air doesn’t seem like it would be too big a deal, so I’m going to go with the cap sensors. The metal valve stems I installed will be added comfort, even though TST states they are not required for the cap sensors.

Good luck!

You are correct... I have run the flo-thru on regular valve stems as I sometimes use them on my utility trailer. But on my camper I have metal stems.

Do the flow through sensors have a security feature? It doesn't look like it.

If this is the case just remove the security cover from the cap sensor then adding air is as easy as removing any valve stem cap. You should only need to adjust air once or twice a season anyway.

Another vote for the cap sensors with the security covers removed. I take them off when the camper is stored at home. The system has saved my bacon a couple of times.

We also use the cap sensors, and like Titan Mike we get about 2 seasons out of a battery - without removing them in the off-season. Our TT has rubber valve stems, and we've had no issues with that; although when I replace the China bombs with Goodyear Endurance tires I'll get the metal stems for the extra support. It doesn't take long to feel comfortable using the cap removal tool, so our security covers remain on the caps. It's great you are taking this safety precaution - and you really can't go wrong with either the flow-through or the caps. Safe travels!

I use the cap sensors and add air probably twice a year and once out of storage. I would not like the flow-thru as to me they stick out too far. Some day I will have metal stems of the appropriate length as to do the two back tires on each side, I really have to remove the liner as any valve extensions I have used slightly leak. Picture below shows the items I had to bend more tightly to fit through the liner slot to attach the TPMS caps.

I have the caps installed ( last year) and I just pulled my camper out of storage today and noticed I lost 10 lbs of pressure over the winter in all 4 tires. I typically don’t lose that much air over the winter. Do you think it’s caused by leaving the caps on?

Are you sure about the battery types? It may have changed at some point but my cap sensors use the 1632 battery. No idea about the flow through.
