Turn Roo U Dinette into Recliners??

We've got a 21DK so no love seat but a nice size U Dinette. When we have lots of people and we can't eat outside the Dinette is handy but it's not comfortable to hang out on/in... Most of the time when it's just the wife and I we don't bother to set up the table, we use it in the bed configuration to hang out on and relax.

I'm thinking of taking the dinette out and replacing it with recliners since I think it would suit our needs much better. On the occasion we need to eat inside, we'd use snack tables...

Any thoughts on this or has anyone taken on a project like this??

Thanks for your suggestions and insights...

What is under the seats? In mine the furnace is under there and some ductwork, it would be hard to do on my 23ws, I would start at which seats you could easily remove and go from there, any mod is doable it all depends on the time, determination and of course money.

Yes and now that you brought that to my attention, although the back bench is mostly storage and a heater duct line, my hot water heater is under one of the side benches and my furnace is under the other....

This has me thinking this would need to be a custom job and I would need to have a couch with a hollow bottom to house all the mechanicals so a lot more thought required here......

Here is another thought, the other day I walked through a 24 ws, have you thought about getting a different camper now that you know what you like.

Yes I have but right now we are restricted by the towing capacity of our Honda Ridgeline which is 5000 pounds.... Bigger is better but I felt like the 21DK @ 4000 dry was the biggest and nicest unit I could tow without having to buy another tow vehicle.

When the Honda is ready for the bone yard I will rethink it.

If you look into furniture actually built for the new campers, most have open backs.
Link here for you to check out that could help

Yes, gotcha on the tv size, maybe just leave the table part home and get a couple of foot stools that match, and use the snack trays to eat, rty that for a while, might be better when you sell it, next guy might want the dinnette to work properly.

Thanks but I don't think having an open back is going to help, I need the bottom underneath the seats to be open and fit over the water heater and furnace.

Made a similar change on my Rockwood 2440WS only to a tri-fold couch instead of recliners. Taking the factory installed dinette out was a bit of a challenge but did end up ok. Love the new layout. Bought the tri-fold on Amazon and noticed they did have some nice recliners as well. Good Luck.

Thanks for that info sasch.... Did your dinette seats have the furnace and water heater under them? my 21dK does and I think that might be a show stopper for me...

No, I did not have those issues - your likely correct they may be a "show stopper" - to bad because I think you may have enjoyed the new layout...

This was a big consideration for us when searching out a new camper. We are just two people, and a dinette is useless. The manufactures appear design with a family in mind and the dinette adds sleeping capacity. With our last trailer we took out a gaucho sofa and replaced it with apartment sized leather recliners. We will soon be doing the same with our Coachman, taking out the sofa and replacing it with recliners. We have no dinette now and use ottomans as tables to eat our meals. These also double for storage and of course relaxing.
