Using velcro to attach popup gizmos.

This is for the newer style bunk ends.....
Awhile back Force talked about using velcro to attach his popup gizmos to his Roo. I went ahead with this because I didn't like the way the spring clips would deform the bunk end seals on the top section and it kept the gutter from channeling away the water in a rainstorm. These are the SHWS pugs.
I used 4 ft of the industrial adhesive strength hook side (2 inch wide, split into 1 inch widths) and placed three 16 inch pieces, one at each end and one in center position.
I then had my DW sew the loop on the adjoinng locations on the black strap that normally gets attached at the gutter.
The loop velcro was 3/4 inch width non adhesive type.
Just be sure to pull on the black strap/velcro and not pull on the material when removing to eliminate possibility of tearing the gizmo.

FWIW, I also liked Forces idea of using two small carabiners on each end to connect the cords together. Works well and keeps the cord ends from tangling when stored.

The cheapo extend-a-hand works well for getting to the center of the bunk ends to attach and remove the pug.

Nice! I like this setup a lot. Thanks for posting the pics. SHW PUGS are on my "soon to buy" list now that summer is winding down. DW doesn't think we need them, but enough people here swear by them that I am going to get them with or without DW's approval. Wish me luck...

Yeah, I didn't learn about the PUGs (and Reflectix) until I joined the forum in anticipation of learning about our 23ss. Wish I was aware of them when we owned our popup. They work well.

DO. Do what I did. Buy them and put them on one end. Have her take an afternoon nap on the non pug bunk. When she feels the difference, she'll approve the purchase.

I was looking at a 2015 233S and was curious on attaching them. Also, are they the same measurements that Bob has on file?

ChooChoo, I'm guessing that Bob does have the measurements on file. He didn't need dimensions for our 23ss, and as popular as the 233ss is, I'll bet he already has those as well. Really nice guy/company to work with.
Good luck, sounds like you're getting ready for a decision soon. We really like ours and haven't had any issues so far. It's such a leap up from our previous two popups, there's no comparison.

I made my own with Reflectix but might just buy these as they look like they take up much less room than the big roll of reflectix I have.

I love the idea of the velcro.

So you attach the picky strip to the camper using double sided tape/sticky side? Do you attach the soft side of the velco to the PUX using tape? Did you sew the soft side to the PUX?

I think your mod is so fantastic that I sure wish the owner of PUX would offer this as an option to have the soft side sewn right onto one of the ends.

The white hook side is the industrial strength adhesive velcro. I bought enough of the two inch and split it lengthwise into 1 inch wide pieces. There are 3 of those on the bunk end, 1st photo shows those and where we located them.
The loop side is the non adhesive backed sew-on type. Those my DW sewed onto the first black strap that normally gets clipped to the gutter. She did a zig zag stitch and sewed them you could still use the cord channel. I did pull the shock cord out of the first strap/chaanel since its not needed but saved it in case I needed it later. There are three 16 inch velcro pieces along that first edge. We just matched the sew on velcro locations to where the adhesive hook pieces were on the trailer. I can take additional pic's if you want.
You might want to call and ask Bob at PUP Gizmos, I think I read an older post where someone had Bob sew on velcro before shipping them.
It takes a minute or so longer to attach them, I just stick them on as soon as we open the end, and finish after one of us goes in and inserts the shepherds hook. It does make for a nice clean install, I didn't like the spring clamps, hard to get the middle section of the pug installed securely. Sorry for the wordiness...

I just looked much closer at the photos and noticed the white strips attached to the Roo and then the black strips attached to that first edge. They blend in so well I could not see them.

I guess it is overkill but I was planning on just going across the whole top with the velcro and the same on the PUX. Figured it would just make for a more positive seal and stop anything from getting it.

On a pop up, I can mount it to the underside of the roof. The water would just run off the roof onto the PUX and off the unit. Nice.

I am liking this more and more. Hehehhe.

Thanks Vin. You could go across the entire side. I was worried about stretching the reflective material when we remove them. I asked Bob Pitney at Gizmos about sewing on the velcro, he just said to be careful when removing and if you have to pull on them, be sure to pull at the black strap and not just the reflective portion. That's a no-brainer for me but unfortunately, common sense isn't so common anymore.

Honestly have to give credit to you first Tom, it was your idea to use the velcro instead of those spring clamps!

We were just over in your area a couple of weeks ago, moved the daughter to Waltham, she's going for a masters degree at Brandeis...

Thanks for the pictures. I was just thinking after this last weekend of putting Velcro on our gizmos for easier set up. I wasn't sure where to put the Velcro but I think I'm set now. I started with the high wind version but turned mine into the super high wind ones. They stood up to the 40mph winds and the 4 1/2" inches of rain in an hour and a half this weekend.

Just ordered a set of Super High Wind PUGS for our 23IKSS. Bob is adding the loop Velcro on the PUGS for only $10 more. That was a no brainer.

I'm gunna add Velcro to my pugs, wish I had known before I ordered, the clamps after only two outings are falling apart. I fitted the reflectix while we're camping and wow! what a difference, we actually slept In to 9:30 the first day, not bad for normal 5:00am risers.

Got my PUGs for the 23IKSS the other day. Bob has begun adding about 4 inches of extra material to the top side on which to sew the Velcro. This is a nice add since it leaves the top reinforcement and bungee channel out on the tent so they can be used instead of fighting the Velcro. Shows a guy willing to change a great product to make it even better. Very responsive and quick. Will attach the other Velcro to trailer this weekend. I'll report back on fit, etc later.

Wow...I didn't think I needed Velcro. I was wrong. Love the gizmos but what a pain keeping them from sliding. Looks like I better learn to sew and buy some Velcro.
