Water Filter Replacement Options

Afternoon all,

So we had the dreaded water filter unscrewing incident happen to us this past weekend. Thankfully we were in the Roo when it happened. Seems the canister is finished and needs replacing. With all the issues I have seen regarding this system we are looking to replace it with something a little better and easier to manage. I am fin with having one in the same location but we are looking for recommendations as to which filter system to buy and install....or do we simply get one of the external torpedo style ones :P

Something like this perhaps?

Shop Whirlpool Under Sink Drop-In Water Filtration System at Lowes.com=

A clear one.

Shop Whirlpool Valve-In-Head Clear with Sediment Filter at Lowes.com

Filters are cheaper than at an RV parts dept.

Shop Whirlpool 2-Pack with House Drop-In Filter at Lowes.com

I pulled our filter out of the Roo this weekend. It's not in a convenient location in the 23SS and after reading all the horror stories I'm going to use it outside. If it gives me any problems at least it won't flood the trailer floor. We'll likely go back to using our whole house filter next season as we kept it from our old popup. The replacement cartridges are too expensive for the filter that FR provides.

Went to Lowes and swapped it out for a unit they had ro $29 here in Canada. $10 in shark bite fittings and 15 mins to complete. Will now build a custom mount for it inside the cabinet.

I have a 23ikss and hated the water filter location. I just had a bypass installed on it and completely removed it. Just use the ones you can buy at walmart on the outside now, much happier!

Camco Water Filter with Hose - Walmart.com

Is there a FR replacement filter? How do I order it? My filter leaked when i first bought our Shamrock 21ss (used) but quickly fixed it by removing the bowl, put a dab of vasoline on the O-ring and some thread tape on the bowl before reinstalling it, works great! Just need a new filter for next camping season.

I put two of the whirlpool clear ones on the motorhome .The nice thing about them is you can buy a sedmit element and a charcoal element.I would buy two elements, cut them both in half with the miter saw, and have two filters that were both sediment and charcoal! I mounted them on a bulkhead then made up a drain basin, similar to what you can buy for water heaters, put a piece of 1/2" copper "M" tubeing on it and drilled a hole in the floor to let the drain tube thru it. So in the end I had one on the onboard water system and one for the shore water system.I dont have much space in the new 5er where the water comes in so I will probably put them in the fwd basement.
