Water in the awning

We've had our Roo for 3 years now. Love it.
One thing I don't like is that the awning collects
rain when it's stored. So then it's always wet
and moldy when it's unrolled.

Anybody know of anything that can be added permanently to protect it? I've seen all the YouTube ideas for DIY, but nothing that can stay on while driving.

Thanks

Totally normal. Capillary effect of the rain wicking inside. I try to open it up for a bit each time after it rains.

There are tons of mold preventive sprays, just goggle it. I haven't tried any yet, but some say it works.

I've had many R/Vs. All of the awnings except those in a bag on our first two pop-ups collect water. Even our latest with the roll up aluminum cover collects water.

I've found storing a bit nose high helps most of it run out but not 'dry.'
I've been using Wet & Forget treatment and it works pretty well.

Not sure about any other awnings. But the one on our 2020 Surveyor collects water inside the tube. The only way I noticed it was I "drooped" one side and out came out about a pint of water out of the end of the tube.

So just running out the awning to dry may not be enough.

Your mileage may vary

i took two quart pop bottles and cut the tops off, then slit them to fit over the ends of the awning. It keeps the water from entering.

This stuff sounds great. Do you spray it on and roll the awning up or wait until it dries?

I spray on and roll up.
It continues to do its thing each time it gets wet.

X2 Wet and Forget works great! I only have to apply it every couple of years.
Spray it on and roll it up. That's all there is to it. Try not to breath the mist.

As Karrun notes it's perfectly normal. Capillary effect of the rain wicking inside. Literally sucks water in via the ends. If you can cover the ends this will stop. But no one does.

Mildew only grown on dirt so the cleaner you keep the canopy the less mildew you'll get. Good solutions posted.

I tried the method whereas you take plastic rain gutters and modify them to fit into the rain gutter over your awning. NO, you cannot drive down the highway with these, they are supposed to keep rain water from entering the awning when rolled up and the unit is parked. Did not work for me. It seems that I had just as much rain water get into the awning as without the gutter covers. One also has to remember to remove these gutter covers before leaving the spot were you park your RV. I must have good neighbors as when we returned from a 4 day outing they brought my gutter covers over to me stating that they saw them come off about a block from the house. I'll find some other use for them now, , ,
