What kind of caulking/sealant on the roof?

What kind of caulking/sealant do they use on the roof of the Roos? Mine has one of those fabric like roofs. would like to have some caulking on hand, just in case.

Recent models use Alpha Systems Superflex roofing. Do not use standard Dicor on Superflex if that is what you have. You would want Super Flex Total Protectant Sealant. Before they started using the Superflex they used TPO. If thats what you have you want to use Dicors sealant made for TPO. Standard Dicor sealant can be used on "most" TPO membranes. How do you know what ones are most? Its not the ones the Dicor makes soften and bubble which is what standard Dicor EPDM sealant will also do to Alpha Superflex. Much older Roos used EPDM, thats the place for the standard Dicor. If its an older one remove an interior vent bezel (4 screws). You should be able to see the underside of the membrane.

Here is one of Rudy's videos, Rudy is one creepy dude.

I can tell you 2016, 2017, and maybe 2015 have Alpha Superflex, back past those years I know they used TPO, I have worked on a few. Not sure of the exact years they changed materials.

Not sure what you mean by "fabric roof"
Mine is a membrane material made by Alpha.

membrane is probably a better word. It just looks like fabric, versus the old rubber or metal roofs.

You definitely have Superflex by Alpha systems on a 2017. About the only place you will find the Alpha Superflex Total Protection sealant where you can by a single tube in tan/beige to match your roof is Camping Worlds website. That is where Alpha will refer you to if you contact them.

Detail - Alpha Systems, LLC

Send a message via AIM to NoviBill
Look at EternaBond tape for emergency repairs and also long-term calk replacement.

Thanks for that lesson. I'm gonna keep that knowledge in my back pocket...

This was the OP's question, the answer is not Eternabond.

Eternabond is fine and an amazing product however most RV owners are not going to be interested in doing a nice Eternabond job like Rsdata has done. I am impressed with that installation, but most people are just going to be interested in doing a touch up of the existing factory sealant if it's required.

A few things to consider as far as Eternabond is concerned. The Alpha Systems long term warranty on the Superflex membrane will be void as soon as you stick the first piece of Eternabond to it. Read it. It specifically says to only use Aplha systems sealants. Take that for what its worth as the value of that warranty is unknown. I have yet to read of anyone having a claim against it.

If you ever have to replace a front or rear termination bar, a gutter rail, or a vent housing, (low hanging tree branch etc)your going to need to cut through the Eternabond most likely slicing the membrane itself. Your going to need to do that either at the edge of the molding or flange or at the edge of the Eternabond itself. Once its on there good luck getting it off and no way implying that getting the sealant off is a picnic either. I could see that being an issue at the gutter or awning rails. I would not want to take the chance of cutting through the roof membrane no matter what I was putting over it. Once its cut behind those moldings your counting on the adhesive itself to hold the membrane, there are reasons why the membrane go's under the edge moldings and termination bars.

to the OP... scbee

I feel like I answered the context of the question which was

Quote:
would like to have some caulking on hand, just in case.
I was not trying to mislead you as to what specifically was on YOUR roof... but instead give some direction to you to stock something, easily obtainable that works no matter what sealing problem you faced. (Try Amazon dot com)

Eternabond works for those "just in case" types of problems... irrespective of the type of membrane roof used on the new installation. Most oldtimers know that the different types of roofs require different kinds of caulking, but Eternabond is a great equalizer of roof types. From their website...
Quote:
EternaBond®'s MicroSealant® adhesive provides a permanent bond to virtually all surfaces. By following our easy 3 step instructions, you too will be amazed at the simplicity of installation and bonding strength of EternaBond® tapes.
If a roof leak were to occur somewhere while on the road, Eternabond, IMHO would be the easiest most effective fix out there, and somehow I doubt that the roof warranty would be affected because of a repair of a roof leak due to a falling branch, poor installation craftsmanship or whatever caused the leak. This goes also for fixing window frame leaks or other structural leaks around lights or whatever, where roof caulking might not be an appropriate fix. How about those occasional gashes in the siding we have seen posted on this forum?... Eternabond is a fixall for any type of gap in the all-weather skin of an RV.

The install thread I mentioned in my post was to show the kind of install effort needed to apply Eternabond on a large area, which would also be appropriate for a smaller area. I went further on my Shamrock roof, after my first year on the road, (15 weeks mostly in FL) with some pretty heavy wind and rains under my belt, to do some EXTRA effort to get ahead of potential leak problems on the roof before they start. HOWEVER...

Disclaimer... I may have voided some long term warranty on my roof by this install. Thanks to Mr. Havercamp for pointing this out. The strength of this forum is the hundreds of people that try to help in most any RV situation.

I'm sure you will enjoy your Roo, and being prepared for any event you face is good practice.
