In my mind all you have to find is a campsite within a 2 hour drive of the center line. Then drive to a spot on the center Monday morning . Any park, cemetery, parking lot, side street, etc will be a place to sit and watch, as long as the clouds are MIA.

Rumor has it the KOA for the solar eclipse rally had over 3000 calls requesting campsites. Rumor has it that town is expecting 60-90,000 tourists for the eclipse. A lot of farms have been renting out land for dry camping so you might get lucky there. Good luck finding something last minute.

what he said...
personally visiting friends in Crossville, TN, about 20 miles from the centerline of totality...
try to find a campground within 2 hours drive might be a challenge at this late date... I would look for smaller county parks... or Land Between the Lakes area where there are many spots, primitive and first come first served...

We will be in St Joseph Mo at the airport they have "primative camping" sat-mon. Its is just a field off the air strip. I think they still have slots but now $180 for the term now. I had a reservation at St Joe State park but that is more near St Louis and cancelled it as the other was much closer. That could be open. It had electric in the equestrian area.

Dale Hollow Dam campground in Celina, TN has several sites available that weekend. It is one of my favorite campgrounds. Was just there this weekend.

I'm camping at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, then driving north into the totality zone. Our plan is to stop in a small town well south of I-70 that has the county fairgrounds open for viewing. It's only about 35 miles from my campsite. The duration at the fairgrounds is about 2 minutes & 20 seconds. I could possibly get another 15 seconds or so of totality by braving traffic on I-70 or trying to press through the crowds in Jefferson City or Columbia. Just hoping for clear weather, and temperatures below 90.

We'll be at Lincoln SP in southern Indiana. We will be about an hour and a half north of Hopkinsville, KY where they will have totality. We should still get a nice view of the eclipse without fighting the crowds

Out here in Central Oregon it's going to be apo-eclipse Authorities expecting more than 100000 people coming, which almost doubles the population for a few days. Recommendations are to stock up on food and gas. 30-40 mile drives may take several hours. There might be still parking spots on farmers' fields for $200 a night ...
The path of totality is only 30 miles north of here, so merely a day trip to some remote forest service road for me.

We are dry camping in an alfalfa field with 5,500 other RVs, near Madras Oregon. This is eastern Oregon. The location is "dead center" on the totality line. It should be interesting when everyone tries to leave.

Saw the last one. 90% is still good enough for me, again.

Anyone still looking to buy or replace their solar eclipse glasses, daylight sky still had some as of 10:30 pm tonight. They are on the safe list for the plastic glasses only. They are charging $25/ 3 pairs and $13 for 2 day shipping.
