Birds!

Prepping the 5'er for our first camping trip of the season, pulled the cover off and discovered the freaking Sparrows built a nest in the hitch box, grrrrr!
Boy are they going to surprised when we head out.
Kidding! Short of dropping the turning point hitch box I see no way to remove the nest. I have covered the access hole with duck tape and from what I can tell no little ones.Click image for larger version

I would take a metal coat hanger straighten it out and put a small hook on the end to reach in and start pulling the nest out and breaking up the parts. Once some headway is made put a shop vac to the hole. good luck JMHO

Been there. If you'll notice, there is actually two spots they can get in and make a nest. So we have a bird two-story condo, from which they seem to return every year. Hmphhh. And- can't clean out the nest til the babies are gone.

Sure.

We went through this too (mostly with robins) until I put some plastic mesh there to keep them out.

They are diligent. Remove the nesting material today... tomorrow it will be back.

The other place we have issues is the small opening where the slide topper rolls up against the sidewall of the R/V.

Both the hitch and the slide topper space are also perfect spots for wasp nests too. First hand (and not a pleasant) experience!

Going to give that a try, I have some stiff wire in the garage to make a birds nest removal tool with then find a permanent solution to cover the holes as there are one on each side.
Since the camper has been covered no nesting on the slide toopers but thanks for the heads up.

How funny; just removed a 4 egg sparrow nest from our hitch pin box, too.

This time of year birds build a nest in the grill of my truck EVERY DAY. I clean it out at 6PM, it's back at 6AM.

Not to wonder to far off topic, we had a Robin, male I am guessing, that spent his spare time attacking his reflection in the patio door. Found it entertaining to sit in the dinning room with my evening drink watching the show until the DW told me to do something about it. Closed the screen door and the first time he went after the reflection and bounced off the screen was actually quite hilarious.

Stood on the patio for the longest time trying to figure out what to do. The Robin finally gave up and I lost my evening entertainment.
