Draining after sanitizing

New owner with a noob question. I've read few articles about sanitizing our water systems. They all state drain and flush. My question, will the bleach water solution stain the concrete or kill the lawn?

I used 2oz per gallon. After running a lot through the lines and letting it sit overnight I've topped off the tank to dilute the mixture before draining. Just want to know if it's OK to drain in my driveway or go to a dump station.

Thanks for helping a newbie,
Chris

In California you would be dumping toxic waste and would be subject to a huge fine and be responsible for all environmental cleanup costs.

Depends what you're draining. The FW tank is probably ok, though I'd drain to a pail and the dump in the house if you're concerned.

The neighbours would frown on draining the black and/or grey tank so those get dumped at the first camping trip of the year.

Thanks everyone...I especially appreciate the toxic waste warning for CA residents. Made me laugh thinking of my native state.

Just to make sure how much bleach you used. Should be: 2 oz. bleach per gallon of water to make a solution. This is enough to treat a 15 gallon tank. Add the solution and then fill the tank with water. E.g., if you have a 30 gallon FW tank you would end up with a TOTAL of 4 oz. bleach in your filled tank.
Once you've drained the FW and gray tank in your driveway/lawn you'll need to fill and flush several times to get rid of the chlorine smell. This will further dilute the bleach.

Never have I really measured the bleach. Maybe a cup or so/ tank (36-55 gal.). I don't believe it is that critical. But then that's the way I cook too. I'll leave it in a couple hrs. then drain and flush. Leaving it in too long is probably worse. I will tell you though, it brings a few worms up when you drain it all out. Haven't noticed any ill affects to the grass or ashpalt

The diluted mixture you used will not hurt anything by draining in the drive. Some folks continue to flush and drain. Myself I use a heavier mixture then you used and let it set for 24 hr the drain and flush one time.

Draining after sanitizing

1/4 cup per 15 gallon is the ratio.

I dump the remaining bleach/water solution on the ground then refill.
