Extended run fuel tank for Honda 2000 generator?

Gíday! I have a Honda 2000 gennie for dry camping...small fuel tank need to be attended more than I care to. Has a one modified a poly or steel portable gas can to be used for extended run? It seems like a simple solution but Iím wondering about how the gennie would draw the fuel; I assume the gennie is gravity fed.
TIA for any solutions.

Very popular option! The EU2000 has a fuel pump so it will suck fuel from an auxiliary can. Safest option is to buy an extended run cap from Amazon and a 6gal outboard boat tank. This method uses boat engine quick connectors.
Note: Your aux tank must be vented as that is now the generators new tank vent. If its closed the system locks and cant suck fuel.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not know I have a fuel pump. Rather than buy an outboard tank and connectors, could I drill a hole through the top cap of a poly fuel can, run a hose from the adaptor cap on the genny into the can and vent the can? I already have gas cans.

there is a kit on Amazon that shows this method. I think the key to make it work is the seal on the genny so that it pulls a vacuum on the aux tank. Should be lots of YouTube videos to guide you along.

If you are going to use an extended run tank, might as well do it right. If you get a boat type tank, you can use your gas cans to refill it w/o interrupting generator or fuel flow. Plus that is what they are made for, regular gas cans are not.
I have run my generators 24 hours a day for several days this way (NASCAR race in the SW heat).
As mentioned previously, just buy the extended run fuel caps for the Honda and an approved extended run tank. You can use regular fuel line (1/8") and valves as needed (if running parallel). Click image for larger version

Honda fix

Canít load pictures today for some reason. Do as Wildcat, save some grief, buy the kit. Sure makes lige simple. Surprise! Pictures dod load. I also added a cheap low pressure, low volume electric pump to pump fuel from 5 gal jug on ground to aux tank, no lifting, spilling. Enjoy!

6 gal tank with inline demand valve to prevent spills if there are any leaks (highly recommended if tank is above generator)

The extended run systems are great, but overpriced for what they are. So are boat fuel tanks. If you want to DIY, it is probably worth your money to at least buy the cap. Making an airtight cap out of your current one is difficult. Take a look at Magicfour Fuel Gas Can Vent Caps. I bought some so my 5 gallon tanks empty faster, and they are great. You could use that as the vent for your extended run tank. The only reason I would ever run a generator would be for AC. And for that you probably need two Hondas. For everything else, solar is cheaper, quieter, and dependable (here in the SW).

I just got my kit last weekend and tested out. Very well build and worked as advertised. If you want a kit made in USA, I think Minnesota, that's probably the best out there check out this site:

Very cool set up, what did it all cost for generators, fuel tank and fuel kit?

$200 with everything or $133 if you already have a tank.

In addition to a 30+ hour run time a big benefit of the extended run tank for a Honda is being able to refuel without shutting it down.

If buying used, I don’t think many people know this. One of the green lights will flash indicating how many hours are on it in increments of 100. So two flashes means 200 hours an so on. Got mine used. Traded a 13 year old Honda 6500 generator for them. Both had less than 100 hours.

The only time Iíve ever seen a green light on my Honda 2000ís is after start one turns on steady to indicate ac power available. How do you find the flashing light?
