Front Caps on Travel Trailers

Wife and I just purchased a new Rockwood 2604WS.

One of my concerns is this new front cap. Our old trailer had the diamond plate bottom edge and it took several rock hits while traveling. I asked about this and the salesman indicated that this is not a problem for the caps (not sure how he came to that conclusion)

So today I installed some duraflaps on my truck. They look pretty good and I hope will help with the problem.

Looking good Congrats on the new unit! You got some nice size mudflaps for sure and that should help!
I kinda like the diamond plate myself.
Guy at the cg has something like this. Not necessarily this brand. I have thought about them myself but dont know how they will work with the WDH.

We have a plain front cap but it's all white. I actually prefer it that way and don't care for the diamond plate at all. I've noticed it does get a chip here and there but the flaps take care of most of the stuff that would hit it.

Automotive paint protection film! Clear, practically undetectable when installed and will protect from road rash - believe me, the paint on the caps gets chipped EASILY! In just the tow home from the dealer, I had a half dozen chips to touch up before having the film applied and I was towing with a TV with flaps!

I think I would go with both, the flaps and the chip free clear coat THe flaps will cut the big stuff down but the chip free will keep most of the small ones down. Also get some touch up from FR, If they will sell it...Looks nice ... PS: that looks like a big awning get a hold of OC before he sells out, he is only making 10 pair.

My husband & I like the look of your front cap. We're hoping that ours may be the same. Looks like an upgrade with the LED lights. We didn't have the diamond plate on our old trailer & never had any damage either. Post more pictures. We are getting anxious for ours. When did you place your order?

mud flaps

your mud flaps do look good, i have diamond plate ones on my ford dooley, something i notice, your flaps come awful close to the ground, if you ever back into a parking spot with just your truck, i am afraid you will pull your flaps off. with some one to help you , slowly back into a parking spot and make sure the curb or stop doesnt touch your flaps, if the flap doesnt clear it, your back tires will pull your flaps off.

Beautiful front cap!! We had no problems with the cap on our 2014 Keystone 321RES so you should be fine. We also have the large rear window but I found out that 95% of the time when I look out the rear window I'm LOOKING AT THE TRAILER BEHIND US!!
Presently we are serious about the new Rockwood Signature 8310SS. Next week at the Novi, Michigan Show we will make a final decision.
Happy trails,

I just purchased a 2905ss. I was expecting the diamond plate also but got this front cap instead. So I email FR directly and got some info on it. It's a TPO cap (thermoplastic olefin) essentially rubber with either fiberglass or carbon fiber imbedded inside. It's the same material that is used now a days on auto bumpers, front detailing, etc.

I contacted Forest River as well hoping that we would be getting the front cap. Apparently all Ultra Lite's manufactured starting in December 2014 will have the cap.

Indymule, I have the same cap with a few thousand miles sans mudflaps. I do have a few rock chips, but the color is intact and looks good. I was actually thinking of taping off and spraying some type of Rhinoliner when it gets too bad.....

Interesting, But auto bumpers dont take the abuse that front of these campers do.

Smart move with the mud flaps. Even if you don't throw rocks, the flaps will keep a lot of road grime off the cap.
